INVASION U.S.A. starring @chucknorris hit screens on this day in 1985. I think it may actually have been September 27 but the trailer says October 4, so I’ll go with that. Regardless of it being Sept 27 or Oct 4, I remember being there opening night with my dad. Who else saw INVASION U.S.A. in the theater in the fall of 1985 and also read the novelization by Jason Frost? As an aside, I am of the firm belief that 1985 was the high-water mark of 1980s action films. Oh, INVASION U.S.A. is also a Christmas movie. Enjoy the day!

TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A. (1985) is William Friedkin letting a crime thriller run on pure adrenaline. The movie is all heat, neon, synths and bad decisions, with Willem Dafoe and William Petersen matching its reckless energy. A filthy, furious slice of ’80s cinema.
What’s a 10/10 movie you NEVER hear people talk about? Not necessarily some obscure film nobody has heard of, just a genuinely incredible movie that somehow never seems to come up in conversations about great cinema. What’s the first movie that comes to mind?

Technique means you need less strength. It does not mean the body gets stronger. That gap shows up later, not when the new move lands.

If the mind gets ahead of the body, it hurts. The other way around does too. New methods, not more of the same, keep the output under the skill.

"Marked for Death" was released on this day in 1990. Superb action/thriller picture from director Dwight H. Little and screenwriters Michael Grais and Mark Victor. Highlights: Fantastic stunts by legendary coordinator Jeff Imada; terrific fight choreography by Steven Seagal; excellent James Newton Howard score. "Marked for Death" was a huge success, grossing over five times its production budget and remaining the #1 film at the box office for three consecutive weeks. Dwight H. Little is an incredibly underrated and creatively versatile director. His 80s horror output produced two exceptional genre pictures ("Halloween 4" and "Phantom of the Opera"), while the 90s delivered this Steven Seagal action classic as well as Brandon Lee's fantastic "Under Fire." (I would also argue that Little's "Free Willy 2" is superior to the original.)
