It was an honour for Carers Support West Sussex and a carer from West Sussex, to be a part of the Carer Poverty Parliamentary event yesterday, raising awareness of the financial challenges unpaid carers are facing.
We joined other members of the Carer Poverty Coalition and @CarersUK to meet MPs and highlight the urgent need for greater support for carers. Our carer met with Alison Bennett, MP for Mid Sussex, to discuss the financial challenges unpaid carers are currently facing.
Carers Support West Sussex & Peter Lamb, the Labour MP for Crawley, met with Carers in Crawley today to listen to the issues that matter to carers. Carers in the group agreed & said, “too many public services are not working together, and carers are being pushed pillar to post”
One carer shared, “when my mum left hospital, we were so ill prepared. We were literally fighting fires. Carers need a discharge checklist”. 8% of the West Sussex population are carers, 8,969 of which live in Crawley. #MPInTheCommunity #Delivering4Crawley #unpaidcarers #Crawley
