This stack of pennies is a $100k earner in Atkinson, NH with a $750k house. Their total state tax burden? About $10k.
Move them to the “education utopia” of North Andover, MA and their property taxes drop by ~$1,200… while their overall tax bill jumps 50%.
Pay $5,000 more to the state to save $1,200 on property taxes. What a deal.
Meanwhile, MA test scores keep falling and towns like North Andover, South Hadley, Newton, and Brookline keep running school budget deficits, cutting staff, and (in at least one case) handing out admin raises instead of saving teachers.
More money isn’t the solution when the answer to “how much do you need?” is always “more.”
