The problem for Chicago is not an inability to attract talent, but that it does not get as much of the truly top tier, top 5% talent as the coastal cities. I get a lot of pushback on this but it’s absolutely true. Places like NYC and SF are next level here. I’m bullish on Chicago as a long term winner but it’s a qualitatively different kind of model.
