turo suggests a 45% monthly discount. a coach who runs 100+ cars calls that outrageous and uses 20%.
his ladder:
3 days: 3%
1 week: 5%
2 weeks: 10%
3 weeks: 15%
1 month: 20%
he says about 85% of hosts never touch the defaults.

the easiest money on turo isn't the car. it's what you put in the trunk.
hosts keep 90% of extras:
child seat
prepaid refuel
unlimited miles
cooler, beach gear
turo's own data said listings with extras earned about 10% more per trip.
the catch: extras aren't covered by turo's protection. only offer what you're ok losing.
the kit has the extras setup, the trip playbook and the 60-second calculator: boringcarmoney.com

a corolla renting at $47 a day in salt lake can carry an $85 car payment. that's it.
$47 x 18 days = $846
minus turo's 20%, $100 cleaning, $80 repairs
minus 15% for surprises
you need $350 left, which leaves room for $85.
finance one at a normal payment and it's underwater before the first guest.

new hosts fear crashes. this stuff hits more often:
cancel 24h+ out: $25
cancel inside 24h: $50 + an auto review on your listing
no-show: $150
guest cancels at check-in for a dirty car: you pay $50, get $0

tesla fsd rentals go live on turo today.
renters win: a weekend with fsd for the price of a rental.
hosts? i'm not sure. a pricier car means a bigger claim, and turo's protection never pays for the weeks it sits in a shop.
i'm still listing corollas.
reply FSD and i'll dm you the kit with the math i'd run first
a "never rent a turo" post hit 3.6M views this week. the car needed an alignment.
turo's own minimums before a car goes out:
tires 4/32"+, under 6 years old
brake pads 3mm+
no warning lights
windshield chips under 1"

a host winding down 23 cars said "i wouldn't start a turo business in 2026."
he's not wrong: dynamic pricing pushes rates down, the 80% plan deductible doubled to $1,500, smoking fees fell to $150.
so skip the business. start with one cash car that works at 18 days a month.
the kit is that one-car version: 5 short guides, the 60-second calculator and the 2026 turo rules. boringcarmoney.com

george madden runs 100+ cars on turo and says about 85% of hosts never touch the default settings. here's what he changes, from his youtube breakdown:
advance notice: 1 hour. 90% of his trips get booked less than 24h out
trip buffer: 3 hours
minimum trip: 2 days
max trip: 3 weeks to a month (he lost 2 engines on longer rentals)
mileage: 200 a day
monthly discount: 20%, not the 45% turo suggests

"drive it until it dies" works for your own car. turo won't let a rental get anywhere close. before i hand a seller cash, the car has to pass all of this:
under 12 years old and under 130k miles
clean title, never a total loss
tires under 6 years old with at least 4/32" of tread
brake pads at 3 mm or more
battery under 5 years, or it passes a 12.1v test
no windshield chip over 1 inch, no warning lights
no open recall when you run the VIN on nhtsa.gov
miss one and you're paying to fix it before the first trip, or you can't list it at all. if you're shopping for your first turo car under $20k, this is the list.
the kit has this checklist plus the 60-second calculator, the listing setup and a 90-day plan, in 5 short guides. $37 until nov 1: boringcarmoney.com

a paid-off 2021 civic, 55k miles. the dealer offered $12,000 on trade-in (that post has been all over my feed this week).
here's what the same car does on turo in salt lake:
$55/day, the median civic here
18 days a month = $990 in bookings
minus turo's 20%, $100 cleaning, $80 repairs and a 15% buffer = about $520 a month you keep
that's the trade-in offer back in 23 months. and a 2021 can stay on turo until 2033.
if you're sitting on a paid-off car wondering what it's really worth, like this post and i'll dm you the kit with the full math
the people renting my corolla at $47 a day are mostly nurses whose own car is in the shop. if everyone stays home and streams, who's driving to the 7am shift

redfin says housing costs might not normalize until 2031. that's 6 more years of waiting. my beige 2016 sienna has until 2028 before turo's 12-year rule kicks her off, and she's not waiting on mortgage rates to earn her $61 a day
nitter.cf/unusual_whales/status/…
When will housing costs get back to normal?
Possibly not until around 2031, per a new Redfin analysis.
If mortgage rates stay near today’s 7.5% and home prices stop rising, it could take about six years for housing costs to return to 2018 levels, when the typical buyer spent 30% of their income on the monthly payment.
But in about half of major metros, it could take 10 years or more, including New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit and Tampa, where prices are rising faster than incomes.

what turo actually pays you when a renter brings your car back late:
under 30 minutes: nothing
30 min to 1h59: half the average daily price
2 hours or more: one full day + $20
it's paid at your host share, so on the 80% plan a $47/day corolla that comes back 2 hours late gets you about $54. and you only have 72 hours after the trip to send that invoice.
if you're about to list your first car, reply LATE and i'll dm you the kit with every fee and deadline turo uses
