Take a look at our delicately beautiful collection of decorated pace eggs. These were painted by James Dixon, who worked for Wordsworth for 33 years as his gardener and clerk at Rydal Mount. It is thought James made these Pace Eggs for William and Mary's grandchildren.

Delighted that the first review of 'Lifescapes' is now out. Very grateful to Daniel for his perceptive and thought-provoking comments. @cambUP_History @CUPBookshop
My review of Jeremy Burchardt's "Lifescapes" (CUP) for @CultSocHistory is now available online. An exemplary historical study of the emotional and physical experience of landscape. It's a wondrous book, contemplative and empathetic throughout.

Calling all Cumbrian filmmakers! We are looking to commission three engaging short films that capture our ‘re-walking’ of three Lake District mountain ascents undertaken by some of the region’s earliest explorers and tourists.

ALT A pencil sketch by Elizabeth Cust showing a riding party on Skiddaw. In the foreground, a woman riding a donkey, and a man walking alongside, are listening to a guide who is pointing at the view behind them. In the background, distant figures can be seen ascending behind the party. In the bottom right corner, the artist has written: 'On Skiddaw / second sight / E.C. Oct 12 1840'.
