John Wall says NIL money is exposing who's really hungry and who's not “If you’re a star player and you know you’re going top five, cool. Get your money. But don’t let that change you.” “I’ve got my tournament, right? A kid comes in that plays for Overtime Elite. I’m thinking he’s the star player. He comes in with three chains on, ski mask on, walking into my gym.” “So I’m looking at him like, ‘Oh, he’s the guy.’ How many minutes did the man play in the game? Two. They were down 20 and he played the last two minutes.” “I’m like, ‘Your mindset is all backwards.’ You’re buying all these chains. You’re walking in with a ski mask. And you’re not going to go nowhere.” “If you get NIL, you’ve got to have a great foundation, parents or a great management team around you, so you know how to manage it. Because it’s already kind of preparing you for the NBA.” “These guys are getting $3 million, $4 million in high school. I look at it like this… If I’m getting $3 million in high school… I’ve got the best car on campus. I’m making the most money on campus. Am I waking up at 5 a.m. to work out the same way? I better.” “I don’t think a lot of these kids are. That’s where it’s like, ‘Oh, I got this early.’ Now what’s my purpose of getting to the league? Now you know if a kid really loves the game. Because I’m already getting what I really want… The money. The cars. The fame. So do you really love the game?”
