i turned up late on purpose to give someone else a chance to win and create drama (i will still win the tournament)
ok but if he was a horse he would be #1
crazy
This story is so incredible (literally) that @el_pais has decided to feature it in its English-language edition (open access, no paywall): english.elpais.com/sports/20…

Turlov is smart - lower the expectations from day 1
The General Assembly was exactly what we expected: a major failure.
The “president” was nowhere to be seen and neither was the other one. People seemed to care only about the elections. There was no organisation, and no FIDE staff applauding behind the scenes or putting on happy faces. It was a real shame for chess.
We were fully prepared to show the world what a General Assembly should look like. We had - and still have - a strong team of true professionals. Yet questions raised by federations are simply being ignored.
Now we have to face the reality of platforms like FIDE Arena. It is deeply disappointing.

never heard of any of them tbh

I can not even put words to how terrible this is. I am so tired of seeing female chess streamers (and women in general) having to deal with this. It’s time authorities start taking online threats and stalking more seriously - constantly fearing for your safety is, to put it mildly, exhausting.

i don’t know any words that rhyme with chess
obviously uzbekistan winning their 2nd olympiad is the main story, but the scary thing is they are not slowing down
I spent just under a year working with Uzbekistan 2, and it was a real pleasure to see how much this team grew in that time!
The Olympiad gave us some unforgettable moments - wins over Spain, England, and especially the 3.5-0.5 against the Netherlands (!).
Big congratulations to Uzbekistan 1 on winning gold. After seeing the work from the inside, I can honestly say this was no coincidence. A lot has been invested into Uzbek chess, and just as importantly, the players themselves bring real ambition, professionalism and work ethic.
Very happy to have been part of this journey!

the general assembly was abandoned halfway through the day (he left before that), i am not sure how else i am supposed to describe his first day on the job
new day? new half-day, at most
A new day for FIDE.
The election is behind us. Now our focus is on what lies ahead - working together, delivering on our commitments, and building an even stronger future for chess, for Member Federations, for the players and the fans.
Today is the final round of the Olympiad and the second day of the FIDE Congress. I wish all the players, delegates, officials and everyone involved a wonderful day.
The work begins.
Gens una sumus.

only 96 delegates have bothered to show up to the general assembly today, less than the required 50% for a quorum. turlov got bored and wandered off 2 hours ago, he is nowhere to be seen
just a complete shambles
i reluctantly accept that turlov is going to be the funniest fide president

Looks like the assembly will be dismissed now when somebody realized there is not enough people at place anymore. The new president also lost interest very quickly and left 🤨
