I'm starting to better understand the limitations of looking at engine evals in post-mortems. I had White in this online rapid game position. I could play either 1.f5 Ne5 2.f6 to "pack" the Black king, or 1.Qf3, continuing to finish development. (1/8)
In conclusion - 1. an engine eval is and always has been a heuristic, and values between something like -2 and +2 need to be judged on whether there are concrete plans to improve the position or close out the game. (7/8)
Hikaru Nakamura on chess improvement: “There’s so many kids who are talented. Andy Woodward, I think, won Titled Tuesday today. This notion that there’s one way to do it - studying over the board versus online - I think it’s all nonsense. There’s no one size fits all. There’s many different methods for learning and improving.
When you look at the kids, no matter where they’re from - the US, Iran, Turkey, Argentina - they all have their own method. The notion of one way, like the Soviet school, it’s 30 years out of date by this point.”
I've been experimenting with the Averbakh Modern to reach a favorable version of the KID, if White doesn't play the most critically (5.d5 before Black can play ...e5, or taking twice on e5). In this example, was able to use a probably not totally sound idea from the Leningrad Dutch (f4 gxf4 Nh5) to open the dark squares.

According to the Chessmaven DB, Spanish GM Marc Narciso Dublan has a 10.5/11 score vs. the Benoni using the 7.Nge2 system my course will cover.
Success with this system requires countering active queen placements on b6 and a5. Narciso - S. Kovacevic 2016: White's last move Ra3 set up a devious idea. White to play.
Another Benoni game I ran across. In Bosch, J - Jannsen, R, 2002, White has a good position, but he missed a killer shot here. Can you work out the win?
I missed a nice win in a rapid game today due to focusing too much on one area of the board. Need to find more study positions like this to get in the habit of seeing the entire board. Black to move.
Caruana has gained a winning advantage in his game and So is in trouble against Sevian. Playoff inbound!?!?!?
