Footage captured an attempted stabbing inside UIC’s Student Center East, showing a student on the floor appearing to fend off an attacker armed with a large knife. The student’s roommate said the victim had slipped on liquid from a thrown bottle and kicked the attacker in the jaw before escaping. UIC officials said the suspect, also a student, allegedly tried to use an incendiary device before the attack and was arrested following the November 4 incident at 750 S. Meanwhile, things get interesting in a courtroom… in Freeport, Illinois.

A video circulating on social media appears to show an off-duty Chicago police officer confronting a group of teenagers before striking a teenage girl who was recording the encounter. According to community-sourced accounts and statements made by teenagers in video from the incident, the confrontation reportedly began after two younger teens were accused of chasing and harassing two girls. Older teenage boys reportedly stepped in after learning about the alleged harassment and confronted the younger group. In video providing additional context, teenagers can be heard discussing what they say happened beforehand. Their account indicates the older teens confronted the younger group over the alleged harassment of the girls. The younger teens’ father, described by community members as an off-duty Chicago police officer, became involved after being told that members of the older group had knives, an allegation the older teenagers denied. During the confrontation, the off-duty officer made threats of physical violence toward members of the older group, according to video from the incident. A teenage girl associated with the group was recording when the circulating footage appears to show the officer making physical contact with her. Community members have additionally claimed the man is a CPD sergeant and have circulated information regarding previous lawsuits involving him. At this time, there is no publicly available information indicating whether the off-duty officer will face disciplinary action or criminal charges in connection with his interaction with the teenage girl.
