"But David, DevOps engineers shouldn't need prod DB access!" True, except the reality is that companies realised that they could save money by consolidating as many roles into DevOps as possible, such as Database Administration. So now we do 🥲

Lol, Branko knew exactly what he was doing when he created this engagement bait. He made it so vague that basically every setup, no matter how secure, counts. Good luck doing any work without your laptop, lol.

IIRC it took so long for the news to go mainstream because even though most of the other researchers quickly realised it was BS, they didn't have the fame and clout to get anyone to believe them. At least they were vindicated in the end.
Bill Gates’s former scientific advisor and employee of seven years, Eliezer Masliah, was recently discovered to have fabricated hundreds of Alzheimers papers. He was on the board of the Gates Foundation’s Alzheimer’s advisory group.

The flaw in these certifications is that you can control want parts of your systems the auditors get too look at.
By the way, in case anyone was still wondering whether they are completely useless, Binance holds SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, and several other certifications.

I want to know how his laptop got compromised 😬
Binance's initial investigation suggests that the security incident may involve a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop, which allowed an attacker to gain access to a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions. We have found no evidence of any wallet private key leak. We will share a detailed technical post-mortem once the investigation is complete and the facts are fully verified. The estimated total impact sits at around $6.3B. We have worked with blockchain partners to freeze affected assets, with ~$3 billion frozen on-chain so far. Binance will cover all losses from the SAFU fund and the company’s funds. User funds are safe. We will also publish an updated Proof of Reserves once the remediation is complete. As an immediate precaution, Binance has: - temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while security checks are completed; - revoked the affected address authorisation; - engaged law enforcement and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover funds. Our teams are working around the clock to resolve this issue safely and thoroughly. We are working closely with our law enforcement partners to confirm the identity of these criminals and bring them to justice. Please rely only on official Binance channels for updates. Please feel free to contact Binance Customer Support if you have any further questions. binance.com/en/support/annou…

Golden Gate 27.2 restored the removed intermediate CAs that I had removed. Apple’s own patch docs say this may happen “with future updates.”

Grok bot has accidentally become a polandball.
We’re collaborating with @SpaceXSI to put Grok Bot to work in @clay. We're showing you exactly how to build with it next Thursday, Oct 29. Here's a hint: - You tell Grok Bot in natural language what you’re starting with, what needs to happen, and what you want back. - It builds the workflow in Clay. - Then we’ll use it to automatically research companies, enrich contact details, and draft emails for the right rep to look over. - And finally, we'll have Grok Bot fill out web forms, log into apps, remember what's working, and pull Clay data from your phone. If you’re usually doing all this by hand, come hang with: @AlexLindahl, Creator in Residence/GTME at Clay @matt_silberman, GTM and Marketing Strategy at SpaceXSI October 29, 2:30–3:30pm ET Reg here: clay.link/cFOzAsl Can’t make it? Register and we’ll send you the recording.

This isn't the first time Israel has supported Argentina on the Falklands, except this time they're open about it...
It's been reported by the Telegraph that Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered Israel to support Argentina on the Falklands over Britain. Why should Britain be expected to defend Israel's national interests if Israel's leadership refuses to respect ours? Britain is not obliged to give any foreign government unconditional political or military support. Our foreign policy should be guided by British interests, and British interests only - that is the Restore Britain position. The Falkland Islands are British, and will remain British.

This is a good read.
We are underestimating the bad faith eMudhra possibly operated in. They actively added a step to the key generation process causing this failure but are making it seem like a dumb mistake. Let me explain with diagrams and python snippets 👇

Evolving threat 🚨 CVE-2026-111497, previously known to affect Node.js (node2shell) and Python has evolved into “HTTP2Shell.” A significant blast radius. This vulnerability leaves many libraries and applications using HTTP vulnerable to pre-auth RCE via Brotli decompression. Please be aware. Fixes not yet available for all affected services. Look for Brotli (1.2.1) dependency upgrades when they become available.

I wonder how many ISO 27001 and SOC2-compliant companies had to take some apps down because they were running unsupported PHP versions and hid them from the auditors? Lol
