Geno Auriemma says the hardest part of coaching isn’t winning games but instead dealing with parents who believe their child should play 35 minutes every game “My job is hard. It’s hard because, in the world that we live in today, parents are so delusional. Every one of them thinks their kid is better than Maya, better than Stewie, better than Paige, better than anybody.” “They think they should play 35 minutes every single game. These kids are under so much pressure that if they don’t live up to that, they’re not having any fun.” “What makes my job hard is trying to make sure these kids all understand that it can be a lot of fun, but everything has to be in perspective.” “Sometimes the hardest part of my job is that we’ve all kind of lost perspective of how all this works and what it means.” “Winning games and all that stuff, that’s not hard. It’s the other stuff that’s hard.”
