23-Year-Old Undocumented Foreign National Who Was Arrested For Allegedly Running Over And Killing Crime Intelligence Officer Ennice Nortman At Lichtenburg Mall, Is Appearing In Court
Undocumented foreign national Akilesh Gupta, aged 23, is appearing at the Lichtenburg Magistrate’s Court in connection with the death of Crime Intelligence Warrant Officer Ennice Nortman. The 53-year-old officer was struck by a BMW SUV while crossing a pedestrian crossing at Lichtenburg Mall on 19 October and later died from her injuries that evening.
Police are investigating a case of murder as well as alleged contravention of immigration legislation. Gupta was previously remanded in custody following his first court appearance on 21 October. The incident occurred while Nortman was on duty at the mall on Dr Nelson Mandela Drive.
CCTV footage of the incident has circulated widely, prompting police to urge the public not to share it as it may affect the investigation. Gupta remains in custody as the matter proceeds in court.
