If anyone has been intrigued by the photos I've posted from Stoke-on-Trent over the last week or so, can I recommend this outstanding book? 'The Lost City of Stoke on Trent' by Matthew Rice, 2010. A large format hand-drawn eulogy to one of the great industrial cities of the 19th and early 20th Centuries. If you want to understand what has happened to urban England over the last 40 years, this is a good place to start.

Hanley old Town Hall, Stoke-on-Trent, in the French style. Closed since 2020. More than thirty rooms over 47,000 square feet on three floors, and currently on sale for £500,000. You wouldn't get a one bedroom flat for that in Hackney.
Just learning about #britishcore via Popbitch because I'm old. Surely Stoke-on-Trent is absolutely primed to jump on this trend and grow its visitor economy in an instant?
