Hawkeye basketball newcomers McKenna Woliczko and Amari Whiting both have been welcomed to Iowa City by friendly fans.
For Woliczko, the circumstances weren't ideal (delayed luggage, 5 A.M. in Walmart, you get the idea), but she quickly felt jovial fans' passion.

Iowa is Amari Whiting's third college.
Whiting grew up in Italy and was coached by her mother at BYU. That background has made her the player she is today. kcrg.com/2026/06/28/italy-by…

Amari Whiting played boys basketball until she was 9, with no girls basketball where she had lived in Italy.
She says that the experience has shaped her to the player she is today, and that Iowa recruited.

Another GREAT game for Amari Whiting
10 Points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, just 1 turnover. If Wooten is the best "bench" player in the County, Whiting HAS to be the best "I KNOW MY ROLE" player in the country, and she plays it just about to perfection.
In fact, for what she's asked to do, I personally think she is the most efficient in terms of executing, because she just always makes the right play, and rarely makes a mistake. And, when she does make a mistake, it's almost always in an effort to make the right play.
If you've ever coached a team where the season is fairly lengthy, you come to appreciate these types of players to no end. It's not a surprise she was taught how to impact a game, a season, and a team by a coach, her mom, and a professional player, her dad.
The nitty-gritty of what she does is a great compliment to how she grew up around the game. #gopokes #okstate
