DB Block Evasion Drill - The primary objective of the block evasion drill is for defensive players to recognize their relationship with the blocker and the ball carrier. - When a defender is out of phase or too far behind the ball carrier, they should use a jab step opposite of their intended direction to set up the blocker. - Coaches should emphasize the "stick, dip, and rip" technique to allow players to bypass blockers quickly without getting engaged in a prolonged struggle. - The rip technique is essential for finishing the move and moving directly toward the ball carrier to make the tackle. - If a defender is positioned over the top, they should avoid unnecessary contact like "shock, lock, and shed" to maintain speed toward the play. - Defensive players must evaluate the ball carrier's path, as some carriers may choose not to use the blocker's leverage, allowing the defender to rip through over the top.
