Many parents will say they want a coach who holds their child accountable… Until the coach holds some of their children accountable. Then we need a meeting, two administrators, game film, witness statements, and possibly congressional oversight.

My school district paid BIG money to a motivational speaker to “motivate” teachers. He was awful. This is how clueless many districts are. Teachers don’t need motivational speeches. They need support, accountability, and fewer distractions from actually teaching.

We've known for over a decade that advanced degrees have little to no measurable impact on teacher effectiveness. Therefore, it's wild that we’ve normalized teachers spending thousands of dollars and years of their lives earning degrees that leaves them no more effective in the classroom than they were before. Are there other fields of work that have this problem or is it exclusively education?

There is a complete professional development void in education. Administrators should stop looking for outside fixes and tap into the professionals in their own buildings. Plenty of teachers and employees have decades of experience and have seen it all. Let them take the lead.
