Let's talk about Garrett Mitchell. โ€ข 6th in the league in average Bat Speed โ€ข 10ยฐ average Attack Angle, and he's in his ideal Attack Angle range 62.5% of swings โ€ข .361 xWOBA โž• metrics, but he is also the only player in the top 10 bat speed list without 10+ HRs. Why? ๐Ÿงตโฌ‡๏ธ

A helpful external cue for hitters who are underrotated at contact is to tell them to show their belt buckle (even if imaginary) to a pull-side target. @TopherJones6 with the quick mid-round adjustment.

Me, @JArrate25 and @QuentinEvers had a very interesting conversation about this the other day. This sparked me to dig a little bit deeper into swing length. ๐Ÿงต
I was interested in how Bat Speed and Swing Length intertwine with each other. Intuitively, it makes sense that a longer swing would result to higher speeds but could a short path and fast swing be the crown jewel. Notable takewaysโฌ‡๏ธ

To clarify, these averages are based on qualified hitters with 200+ plate appearances, or greater than 3x as many plate appearances as games their team played.

When @BradyShannon15 assessed, we saw that he was adding coil late in the stride phase with no posture over the plate, which led to his path being out and around his body. A staple in his swing design was Hook Em paired with a SL in: - Hook Em: forcing him to start in a coiled and hinged spot and hold posture through the forward move - SL In: rotate into foot plant while maintaining posture over the plate This gave him an understanding of controlling the stride by adding/maintaining posture while moving forward.

Struggling with a low or negative attack angle? Set an environment that encourages you to swing more uphill to make flush contact. RHP BB | Long Trainer Steeper descent angle of BB encourages a hitter to swing more uphill to match the plane of the pitch. @owenkirch28

The timing and amount of separation is incredibly important for creating bat speed and adjustability in your swing. Create too much too early and you won't fully utilize the stretch-shortening cycle, which allows the muscles to produce more force than they can on their own. This is the "rubber band" effect. Hold that stretch too long and the muscles can't retain those elastic properties.

Marc Hersh is a Junior at FIU who came in looking to: 1. pull the ball in the air more consistently 2. be more adjustable to varying pitch shapes/heights because of a disconnected upper body which leads to a lower AA and POC to be more out front, it is really difficult to create depth in his turn to allow him to do those things. So far 18 of the 28 home runs hit in this year's CWS have been hit to the pull side. That is just over 64%. Pretty important to have a swing that has the ๐™˜๐™–๐™ฅ๐™–๐™˜๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ฎ to pull the ball in the air if you are looking to do damage in the batter's box.

Texas is second in the NCAA in P/PA at 4.11 and led the country last year at 4.10. They are also twelfth in OPS this year at .932. Is their patience at the plate indicative of their offensive success or more stylistic?

After running a regression model using 2026 data, the relationship between P/PA and OPS is weak. The data suggests that Texas' patience at the plate is more stylistic than indicative of their offensive success.

However, as a caveat, teams with the highest OPS in 2026 tended to have above average P/PA and teams with the lowest OPS tended to have below average P/PA.
