Please note the Duke Street taxi rank (lower part) has now been extended by the number of spaces we lose at the front of Selfridges when Oxford Street closes to traffic in a few weeks and is fully marked out. The 2 space taxi rank on Duke Street (below the cinema) remains in situ and operates as a separate rank. The extended rank does not act as a feeder for it. Now the Duke Street rank has been extended please do not over rank on the Selfridges front rank. A new rank on the south east side of Orchard Street by the Selfridges Food Hall is due to go in and we are waiting for a date for this to be marked out. The working rank outside M&S Marble on Oxford Street remains as does the rank facing north at the side of M&S on the west side of Orchard Street. Both are working ranks which will be needed when Oxford Street closes to traffic from Orchard Street to Great Portland Street, please do not use them for parking.

Can't make it up!!! Great Britain is finished.
🚨 NEW: The Green Party member who proposed the "Zionism is racism" motion is a close friend of an al-Qaeda terrorist who plotted to bomb passengers arriving at Heathrow from Israel

🚨I’ve just been passed documents relating to a major Andy Burnham donor connected to ANOTHER English football club. Big trouble brewing for the Labour government. More on this to come...

The mess Henrietta Place is in even before 26th October and that's without dozens of extra of busses added to it per hour. Know you're not going to listen but just hope you honest enough about this crazy Oxford Street pedestrianisation @MayorofLondon @CityWestminster

MANCHESTER AIRPORT WHISTLEBLOWER Serious allegations are being made by someone claiming to be a serving Border Force officer at Manchester Airport. The whistleblower alleges that aircraft are arriving between 2am and 4am, several times a week, carrying 200–300 people from the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa, who are allegedly processed by Home Office staff rather than Border Force and taken away on unmarked buses. If this account is genuine, these are extremely serious allegations and the Government should provide clear answers. Are these flights operating? Who are the passengers? Where are they coming from? Who authorised their arrival and what immigration checks are being carried out? These claims need to be independently investigated and either substantiated or categorically disproved. The public deserves transparency about what is happening at our borders. @ShabanaMahmood @andyburnham The truth will be exposed I have no doubt and the British people will never forgive this Labour government.

This looks like a member of staff on the London Underground giving out pro-Pal stickers to the public. These spaces should not have divisive politics in them. I don’t want to be handed one of these by one of your employees. What is going on @TfL?

My salute to the Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar for his extraordinary bravery. Despite being stabbed and seriously injured, he fought back, resisted, opened the cockpit door, and enabled passengers and crew to overpower the attacker — preventing a catastrophic mid-air disaster. He saved the lives of 174 people, including Israeli citizens and other nationals. I wish Captain Machchhar a speedy and full recovery. He is a true hero.

So apart from all that it should be a roaring success!! Just hope you hold @MayorofLondon fully responsible.
That's not really the issue with the trade here. As a reminder, private cars were banned a decade ago, so all the traffic there now is necessary for the street to work, whether that's access for emergency vehicles, to deliveries for the shops, or how shoppers will even get there. Firstly, there's a big reduction in the number of bus routes and volume of capacity that will service the area. A couple of routes are being terminated early and the remainder will see cuts in frequency as the road they are being diverted to is smaller (every nearby road is smaller!) and can't take the current level of service. Many of the higher spenders, as well as those with bags, mobility issues and the elderly on taxis to get to the bigger shops and those will also struggle as not all the shops have rear entrances. There's also no step-free access from Oxford Circus tube, so some will struggle to get there at all. TfL have acknowledged access is an issue but the solution to improving the station will take years and costs £ tens of millions. The second big issue is that the retail on Oxford Street is actually a much smaller economic activity than everything else that happens nearby so displacing the traffic from one place to another and not ensuring that those areas don't end up being worse is economically reckless. Again, this is a fixable issue but it needs solutions and it needs to be monitored and there are not enough commitments to making that happen. Finally, there's no alternative route for bicycles, yet. The smaller roads can't take them and there are no other obvious East-West routes. The expectation right now is that they will take large detours, which seems unrealistic. Good pedestrianisation can be wonderful. With time and money this could be great, but there is not enough of either right now. It could be fixed but these are self-imposed problems. If it's going to happen, we should be taking the time to make it the best it can be.

Oxford Street goes traffic-free in four weeks, and residents and businesses still don't know how deliveries, cleaning, safety or traffic on side streets will work. The Mayor needs to answer now. Full story: westm.news/oxford-st-26-octo…
