Through Town, I got to know Sir Patrick Stewart, and considered both he and his wife Sunny to be dear friends. His love of the Club was deep and passionate, and he never missed a chance to speak of their history to anyone and everyone who would listen (everybody listened to Sir Patrick). He and Sunny were kind enough to fly up to Sacramento for my birthday a couple years ago, a weekend to remember for sure. He was kind, humble, and simultaneously a true force of nature. I am blessed to have known him, and only regret not being able to know him longer. I look forward to the Club honoring him in all the ways appropriate over the coming days, as he was truly a tireless Ambassador of all things Town, completely irrreplaceable, never to be forgotten. To Sunny, you are in our thoughts and our prayers. UTT Sir Patrick, may you rest in peace, my dear friend. πŸ’™πŸ€ Kevin

In 1952, an English teacher named Cecil Dormand secretly paid for a dirt-poor 11-year-old to take a drama course. He never told him and the boy didn’t find out until decades later. By then, he was a knight, that little boy’s name was Patrick Stewart. He was born into a poor family in Mirfield, a small mill town in Yorkshire and his father came home from World War II a violent man, and he was violent toward Patrick’s mother. Young Patrick learned exactly when to step between his father’s fist and his mother. An English teacher put a copy of Shakespeare in his hand and told him to get up and perform. He never stopped and left school at 15. By 19 he was completely bald... most agencies told him he'd never make it because of that. In 1987, the LA Times called him an β€œunknown British Shakespearean actor” when he was cast as Captain Picard. Then he became one of the most famous faces on Earth. You’ve probably heard that part. Here’s the part you haven’t: He spent decades as a patron of Refuge, sheltering women and children from domestic violence. But he never stopped trying to understand his father. He dug up a 1940 newspaper clipping that said his dad had come home with severe shell shock. He went to France and walked the ground where his father’s unit was pinned down under bombing for hours. He learned his father had PTSD, and nobody ever helped him. So Patrick became an ambassador for Combat Stress, a charity that helps veterans. In 2013, a young woman at a Texas convention told him she was a survivor of domestic violence. He asked, β€œMy dear, are you okay?” Then he hopped off the stage, held her, and told her: β€œYou never have to go through that again, you’re safe now.” At Dragon Con, a Make-A-Wish girl dressed as Spock came to meet him. 2,000 people were waiting for him to speak... he sat down and talked with her for 15 minutes, making all of them wait. He told her that since they were friends now, whenever she saw him on screen she could wave and say, β€œHello Patrick.” After 9/11, he felt helpless, so he brought his one-man A Christmas Carol back to Broadway for a full week of charity shows. He played every character himself and donated every cent. In 2019 he did it again, and every dollar went to feeding hungry New Yorkers. In 2017, he fostered a pit bull named Ginger, who had been rescued from a dogfighting ring. She was his first dog in more than 50 years. He couldn’t bring her home to England, so he found her a family. Then he kept fostering more. When he said he was done with Star Trek so many people told him the show had gotten them through the hardest times of their lives. So he wanted to see if Picard could do it one more time. Rest in Peace, Sir Patrick πŸ––

One of the coolest things I ever got to do in my entire life was to fly down to Patrick Stewart’s home in LA, write this script (much of it), and sit with him in his office upstairs and record his voice. Obviously I was INCREDIBLY nervous. He had just finished recording ALL of Shakespeare’s sonnets for another project the day before, but offered up his time on a Saturday afternoon. As we began, he started asking me questions: what was the pace? The tone? The pauses? And so many more. I think he sensed my reticence in offering up any advice (HOW DO DO YOU ADVISE SIR PATRICK STEWART??), and he smiled and said to me: β€œYou know David, any good actor is only as good as the direction he receives!” He truly wanted to take as much time as possible, and wouldn’t rest until he got it PERFECT. For me, a radio guy, to see a true master at work was mind blowing. So I directed him. We spoke about tone and tenor and my God did he nail it. He elevated those words so much that they positively FLEW. We wrapped up, and before I left I went downstairs with him to say goodbye to his wife. She was in the kitchen preparing lunch. They asked me to stay, but I had a plane to catch, and if I’m being honest I think I would’ve rather understayed than overstayed my welcome. As we turned to walk out, she said β€œPatrick don’t forget!” He paused, and looked at a bowl of green beans. It was apparent that HIS duty for the meal was to peel the stems of the beans. He turned to me and said β€œThis meal shall not be complete without some PATRICK STEWART GREEN BEANS!!”, and in that moment he seemingly grew a full foot taller, filling the room with his signature tone and tenor. It was so light and humorous, but for me, I got to see the man literally display a full on superpower in front of me, and I was in awe. He was, quite simply, awesome. Please enjoy his words we recorded on that summer afternoon. He loved his Huddersfield Town club soooo much.

All at Huddersfield Town are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of lifelong supporter Sir Patrick Stewart. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this sad time. A titan of his craft and a legend and hero to millions worldwide, his legacy will live on. Fiercely proud of his Yorkshire roots, Sir Patrick was a Terrier in every sense, and we’re proud to have counted him as one of our own. Once a Terrier, always a Terrier πŸ’™ #htafc

Finally, a word on the SKIPPER. Genuinely what a player him and Collins becoming a real partnership. Captaining a side at such a young age, while on loan is some going. WE HAVE TO GET HIM PERMANENTLY. #htafc

➑️ MK Dons ➑️ Notts County ➑️ Mansfield ➑️ Sheffield Wednesday Four draws #htafc ought to have turned into wins. Lack of ruthlessness is a major issue. They can’t keep cheaply throwing away points if they are going to finish in the top-six.

100% penalty. 100% bullshit how it was handled. Can't say Wednesday didn't deserve a point after a kamikaze second half from Town, but you can't fuckabout changing rules to cover a bad mistake from the officials. Shows why players and coaches should always surround the ref.
