In view of the upcoming General Elections to Goa Legislative Assembly, 2027, a comprehensive training program was conducted for the Sector Officers of North Goa District under the leadership of Collector & District Election Officer, Shri Ankit Yadav, IAS. ​The interactive session was imparted by Master Trainer Dr. Shantanu Gawas, in the presence of Additional Collector - I Shri Pravin Parab, Deputy Collector (Election) Shri Safal Shetye, and Mamlatdar Shri Pravind Gawas. The officers were briefed about their roles and responsibilities including polling station preparedness, area familiarisation, identification of critical and vulnerable polling stations, maintenance of law and order and inter departmental coordination.

Multi State Mock exercise on Cylone and Cyclone induced disasters reviewed in DEOC, North Goa.
Multi-State Mock Exercise on Cyclone and Cyclone-Induced Disasters: Collector (North Goa), Shri Ankit Yadav, IAS, reviewed the rescue, response and mitigation efforts at the District Emergency Operations Centre (DEOC) set up at the Conference Hall, Collectorate, North Goa. The review was conducted in the presence of Deputy Collector (Disaster Management) Shri Safal Shetye, Mamlatdar Shri Pravind Gawas and senior officials of various line departments. As part of the exercise, mock situations were simulated at multiple locations across all talukas of North Goa to assess preparedness, inter-departmental coordination and the effectiveness of response mechanisms during cyclone-related emergencies.

The XVIIth Governing Council meeting of the North Goa District Mineral Foundation Trust (NGDMFT) was chaired by Collector, North Goa, Shri Ankit Yadav, IAS. The meeting was attended by Member Trustees, Hon’ble MLAs Shri @PremendraShet and Smt. @draneofficial , Dy. Director of Mines & Member Secretary, NGDMFT, Shri Ratnakant Govenker, Member Trustees from various government departments and the mining sector, and representatives of project-proponent departments. The Council reviewed sanctioned projects worth over ₹15 crore across skill development, education, healthcare, animal husbandry and other sectors. It also approved new proposals worth over ₹6 crore, including supplementary subsidies for rooftop solar under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana and for farmers in mining-affected areas, scholarships for Mining Engineering students at Goa Engineering College, smart classrooms and a Digital Learning Centre at Government Polytechnic, Bicholim, and upgradation of the OT and TruNat room at CHC Bicholim. Other approved projects include an MRF Shed for SMC Sanquelim and a skill development training project. The Council also approved measures to streamline the DMF project sanctioning process for greater efficiency and timely implementation. The Annual Report for 2025–26 was approved, and the formulation of the Perspective Plan and Annual Plan was discussed. The meeting reaffirmed NGDMFT’s commitment to the welfare and sustainable socio-economic development of mining-affected communities.

As part of the 15th State Road Safety Week–2026, the Collectorate, North Goa, conducted a Road Safety Quiz Competition on 28 September 2026, with around 86 officers and officials from the Collectorate and subordinate offices in Panaji participated. The qualified participants proceeded to the second round. Today, the Collectorate, North Goa, organised a Road Safety Awareness Rally from the Collectorate premises to Kala Academy and back. 4th Review Meeting of the Special Cell to review waste management in the district.
The 4th review meeting of the Special Cell (SWM), North Goa District, was convened on 28/09/2026 to review compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in Civil Appeal No. 6174/2023 and implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. The meeting was chaired by Shri Ankit Yadav, IAS, Collector & District Magistrate and Chairperson of the Special Cell, in the presence of Dr Geeta S. Nagvenkar, Member Secretary of the Special Cell and GSPCB. Deputy Collectors, Mamlatdars, BDOs, Deputy Directors of Panchayats and Tourism, and officers from Urban Development, GSPCB and Police Department attended the meeting. The meeting reviewed the identification and registration of Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs). A total of 389 BWGs have been identified across North Goa. Fortnightly inspection reports of Urban and Rural Local Bodies were also reviewed. Directions under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act have been issued to defaulting local bodies for observed non-compliances. Local bodies were directed to intensify surveillance of garbage blackspots through CCTV, field inspections and patrolling, ensure scientific collection, transportation and disposal of waste, and undertake enforcement drives against open dumping, littering and unauthorized disposal in accordance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. @Coll_NorthGoa

North Goa District reviews preparedness for Goa Legislative Assembly Election 2027 A meeting to review the preparedness for the forthcoming Goa Legislative Assembly Election, 2027 was held today at the Conference Hall, Collectorate, North Goa, under the chairmanship of Shri Ankit Yadav, IAS, Collector & District Election Officer, North Goa. The meeting was attended by the Additional Collector-1 Shri Pravin Hire Parab, Additional Collector-2 Shri Akshay Potekar, DC(Elections) Shri Safal Shetye, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) of all 19 Assembly Constituencies of North Goa District. The meeting reviewed various aspects of election preparedness, with emphasis on ensuring timely and systematic completion of all preparatory activities. Key areas reviewed included polling station visits and rationalisation of polling stations along with the provision of Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF) at polling stations. The officers were directed to identify polling stations requiring major or minor civil works and to ensure adequate accessibility for voters. Directions were also issued for timely disposal of forms, and special focus on identification and mapping of Persons with Disabilities (PwD) voters, senior citizens, and first time voters. The Collector & DEO also reviewed the proposed SVEEP activities including engagement with Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs), AC-level conferences with ELCs and BLOs, and EVM demonstrations. Other important areas discussed included manpower and polling personnel requirements, transport arrangements, training of election personnel, identification and preparedness of strong rooms at the Assembly Constituency level, law and order preparedness, identification of expenditure-sensitive and shadow polling stations. District election officer stressed the importance of advance planning, inter-departmental coordination and timely completion of all election-related activities so as to ensure that the district remains fully prepared for the forthcoming election. @Coll_NorthGoa @CEO_Goa

Chief Election Commissioner of India Shri Gyanesh Kumar, interacted with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) of Goa today. Over 1000 BLOs from various parts of the State took part in the interaction held in Goa. In his inaugural address, CEC Shri Gyanesh Kumar described the BLOs as the foundational pillar of the world's largest democracy. He added that the preparation of Electoral Rolls and the conduct of elections in India are executed strictly as per the Constitution of India, law and instructions issued by ECI. CEC Gyanesh Kumar stated that the BLOs are the first interface of the Election Commission of India with the citizens. CEC Gyanesh Kumar also underscored how the BLOs of Goa had played and continue to play an instrumental role in the preparation of the Electoral Rolls. The 3rd Review Meeting of the Special Cell (SWM), North Goa District was convened to review compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in Civil Appeal No. 6174/2023 and ensure effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. The meeting was chaired by Shri Ankit Yadav, IAS, Collector & District Magistrate and Chairperson, Special Cell (SWM), North Goa, in the presence of Dr. Geeta S. Nagvenkar, Member Secretary, Special Cell and Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB). The meeting was attended by Deputy Collectors/SDMs, Mamlatdars, BDOs, Deputy Directors of Panchayats and Tourism, along with officers from the Urban Development Department, GSPCB and Police Department. The meeting reviewed the ongoing identification and registration of Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs) in North Goa. It was noted that 248 BWGs have been identified, of which 32 have successfully registered on the CPCB centralized portal. In accordance with the latest directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court dated 18th August 2026, local bodies were directed to strictly enforce registration of BWGs and clearly communicate the consequences of non-compliance, including temporary disconnection of electricity and water supply, wherever applicable in accordance with the prescribed legal framework. To strengthen citizen participation and awareness, local authorities through the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) and Directorate of Panchayats (DoP) have been directed to place Solid Waste Management Rules-related matters before subsequent Gram Sabha and Council meetings. The Directorate of Education has also been directed to incorporate awareness and knowledge of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 into school education and curriculum-related initiatives. The meeting also reviewed fortnightly inspection reports and complaints received from various areas. To ensure timely and effective enforcement, Taluka-level teams have been directed to strictly adhere to the prescribed inspection schedules and submit only geotagged photographic evidence as part of subsequent inspection reports. The Special Cell reiterated the need for coordinated and sustained action by all concerned departments and local authorities to ensure effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 and compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court across North Goa District.
