With warmer weather upon us, our greenkeeping team, led by Superintendent Adam Lamb, are fine-tuning every detail across the course. Their goal: to present our members and guests with the truest expression of Sandbelt character on this remarkable layout.
Commonwealth’s three par 3 holes, each featuring a green guarded by tightly cropped bunkering, are notorious for their ability to make or break a round. On one day any of these holes may be an easy birdie. On another, you may find yourself putting for 6….!
There's still something special about the old-fashioned scorecard and pencil. For generations, rounds have been recorded one hole at a time in pencil. Birdies circled, bogeys lamented and, every so often, a number written down that you’ll remember forever.
Beautiful, strategic and memorable. A hole worthy of any golfer’s list of favourite Sandbelt par 4s.
Commonwealth Golf Club’s wonderfully tilted putting surfaces and deep, sharply defined Sandbelt bunkers make finding the green only half the challenge. Leave yourself on the wrong side of a tucked pin and getting up and down can quickly become an exercise in damage control.
Under the watchful eye of a towering gum lies the heavily contoured 3rd green. Guarded by four tightly cropped bunkers, every approach demands careful decision-making to balance risk and reward.
The par-4 11th may appear straightforward from the tee, but its defence lies in one of the most challenging putting surfaces on the course.
The two-tiered green slopes steeply from back to front and right to left into a swale, making walking away with par here a good result.
The return of the wildflowers to our heathland home. A welcome reminder that a new golf season is in the air.
A devilish short par-3, the 15th is classic Sandbelt golf. During his visit to Commonwealth, @rorymcilroy used an 8-iron, a wedge and a putter here to escape with par in a north-westerly breeze. How do you play it?
