One thing is very worrisome: federal and state jobs have now become slots, instead of being based on merit.
Last week, a friend here reached out to me on behalf of other candidates. They went through the Customs recruitment process, passed some stages, and were invited to Abuja for a drug test. They were expecting results, only for them to realize that their names had been substituted with those of unknown persons who had already been invited for training. I saw them protesting a few days ago.
Some people will graduate and keep looking for jobs, collecting money from their parents to apply, while a politician somewhere already has slots that he will share with leaders and loyalists in his constituency.
It is not limited to jobs alone. Even Federal Government-funded foreign scholarships are being distributed as slots, while others waste their time and resources going through the official process.
A few weeks ago, the @NigeriaRevenue (NRS) denied having any ongoing recruitment and warned the public to beware of fraudsters. Till now, there has been no official communication about starting one.
In this video, the APC deputy governorship candidate in Oyo State, Hon. Adesoji Adedeji, is seen with some APC leaders visiting the Ogbomoso Central Mosque to seek support. He is the younger brother of the NRS Chairman, Dr. Zacch Adedeji.
The Imam who received them told the congregation that Hon. Adedeji gave them N21 million for the installation of solar power in the mosque. He further disclosed that they requested jobs for their people at the NRS and were given 2 slots by Hon. Adedeji, who holds no position in the NRS.
It didn't end there. The Imam later spoke to the NRS Chairman himself and raised the issue of job opportunities again, and the Chairman reportedly promised them 5 slots at the agency.
Seven slots in total, just because of an election, whereas there are hundreds of thousands of graduates out there waiting for the agency to officially commence recruitment.
It is well!

On Monday night at the Ballon d'Or ceremony, 20-year-old Vicky Lopez won the Women's Young Player of the Year award for the second consecutive year.
While delivering her acceptance speech, Lopez said: "Mum, although you can't be with me physically, I feel your presence every day. Everything I've achieved I owe to you, so thank you for teaching me never to give up."
The star, whose father is Spanish and mother is Nigerian, was born in 2006 in Vallecas, a working-class neighbourhood in Madrid.
Vicky López's mother was Joy Felix, a Nigerian woman who worked as a business owner before passing away from a brain tumour in 2018, when Vicky was 11 years old.

It is a joy to watch our own @burnaboy present the ‘Socrates Award’ at the ongoing @ballondor .
The Socrates Award honors humanitarian work and social initiatives connected to football, and the winner was @BukayoSaka87 .
I was even happier when he said that one day he would see one of the players from his football academy on this stage collecting an award.
He owns and finances the ‘Burna Boy Football Academy’ in Port Harcourt, which gives African youth the opportunity to showcase their talent to managers, scouts, and agents across the globe.
Burna Boy is the only person who isn't a popular ex-football player or coach, yet has climbed onto the stage to present an award tonight.
The moment an American pastor and his wife announced to the congregation that they were in a polygynous marriage, and then introduced the second wife to the church.
The second wife also runs a ministry. She was a ‘little sister’ to the first wife.
My own be say the pastor like big things 🤣😅😄
Replying to @AYCOMEDIAN
@AYCOMEDIAN is currently touring the UK, along with Akpororo and MC Monica.
He performed in Sheffield, England, on Saturday, but refused to show up in Cardiff, Wales, yesterday.
It ended in chaos as people grew angry, and police had to come to the venue.
26-year-old Obanyeli Jesse Chima was an international student from Nigeria who had just finished his master's degree in Public Health in London.
He was waiting in a lounge to meet friends for a joint birthday celebration when he said he needed to step outside for some air. His breathing quickly deteriorated.
Despite using three different inhalers he had with him, nothing helped. His friend called an ambulance, but while she was still on the phone with the operator, he collapsed.
His friends started CPR right there on the street, guided by the emergency operator.
Paramedics spent about two hours working to stabilise him before rushing him to hospital.
He was placed on life support. At first, medics hoped he would only suffer memory loss.
But two days later, doctors confirmed there had been no improvement and tests showed he was brain-dead.
Jesse was just 26. He leaves behind three siblings in Nigeria.
He was known as a passionate Chelsea FC fan who had even worked at the club.
His friend Eva said his family had been saving money to fly over for his graduation.
"His family had saved money for his graduation, and now that money needs to be used to bury their child," she said.
Friends are now raising money to transport his body back to Nigeria so his family can lay him to rest.
A GoFundMe account has been created. gofundme.com/f/help-bring-ch…
