We had a spook-tacular time today – our patients and their families at Cook Children’s Medical Center – Fort Worth and Prosper went trick-or-treating and our employees showed off their Halloween spirit by dressing up in creative costumes!
Thank you to the many teams, departments and clinics who helped make this a special day for our patients throughout the system.

Thank you @Fortworthreport for covering such an important story! One year ago, a bold partnership set out to transform health and wellness in Fort Worth's Las Vegas Trail neighborhood. Today, the results speak for themselves.
Halloween is just around the corner, bringing costumes, spooky decorations and plenty of pretend monsters. But for some children and teenagers, the scariest things aren’t ghosts or spooky pumpkins. Something as small as a bug can trigger overwhelming fear and anxiety.
According to Amanda L. Moen, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist at Cook Children’s, fear is a normal part of childhood development. “Fear is an emotion that basically tells us there is a potential threat in the environment that we should be aware of,” Dr. Moen said.
However, when fear becomes intense, persistent or interferes with everyday activities, it may be a sign of a phobia.

As he dealt with severe kidney disease, 17-year-old Dylan Banks faced a choice: Continue with dialysis or try for a kidney transplant.
Dylan named his new kidney “Clover” in the spirit of the transplant occurring on St. Patrick’s Day. Another fun fact? Dylan was the 250th patient to receive a kidney transplant at Cook Children’s since the program started in 1993.
