Maybe it was Bruce Lee. Maybe it was Jackie Chan or Tony Jaa. Everyone has that one fighter who unlocked an entire genre for them. That genre used to be difficult to share, but not anymore. Here are the 51 Greatest Fight Scenes...According To One Guy: bit.ly/51-Greatest-Fight-Sce…

Some of this is matchup based, but one of the more interesting details with Miami right now is that after leading the league in Drives/100 last year (59.2), they're down to No. 20 this year (43.6 per 100). Had 45 vs Atlanta with the added PnR. Rim attempts/100 mostly the same.

The first Heat story is the first win, dominating the Hawks in the paint as Adebayo found his rhythm. But the bigger story may be how different the offense looked, Miami running 57 pick-and-rolls - 10 more than their season high a year ago. Takeaways: nba.com/heat/news/coups-take…

Davion Mitchell ran 32 pick-and-rolls vs Atlanta (1.23 ppp). His season-high last year was 17. Pelle Larsson got 1.72 ppp out of 16 pick-and-rolls. Giannis set 24 screens, well above his previous season high of 10 (vs Dallas).

Heat rebounded 44.8 percent of their misses in that first half. Hawks are a smaller team and Heat are punishing them inside. First time this season where they've clearly looked like the better team for a full half.

Heat's 25 rim attempts would have been the third-most for any team in a first half last season.
The Heat have more rim attempts (23) against Atlanta than they did in any first half last season. There's still three minutes left in the half.

Hawks have given up about eight blowby drives so far, which is something Miami's pace helps with.

What Bam is doing tonight (with Giannis in foul trouble for most of it) so far is more reminiscent of a couple years ago, all post ups and middle flashes, all short jumpers in the upper paint - which is what the bulk of his self creation tends to look like.

Last night was the highest 3pt Shot Quality Miami has allowed in four games (56.1 eFG) but Dallas shot 10.4 percentage points worse than expected. Yes, there are personnel aspects to that. Best defensive game by DRtg, but highest Shot Quality allowed overall.

0-4 is 0-4. There's no way around that, or to make that feel good. But there is some progress happening, the defense against Dallas looking more like the defense that was expected. Only Dallas gave Miami's offense even more to think about. Takeaways: nba.com/heat/news/coups-take…

And we have ourselves another clutch Heat game.

Heat's best minutes that half came against Dallas' bench lineups, and Mavs shooting was pretty up and down, but still a more cohesive defensive effort overall. Fewer breakdowns, tighter coverage, same scheme.

Giannis just assisted on four threes in a row, three from Bobby and one from Dru.

Heat generally jammed up a few more possessions, especially against Dallas' bench units, than they have been, but that's still a quarter where it's worth asking yourself if the defense was *that* much better, or if Dallas missed shots other teams had been making.

Still so early that you have to let all numbers, even the ones that tell you things might be better than it looks, even out with time. But very broadly speaking we can say Miami's defense at least has better fundamentals than it appears for the No. 25 DefRating.

Miami's Shot Quality (Expected eFG) through three games is 53.78, Rank 20. Their opponents in those three games... Minnesota: 50.43 Detroit: 51.27 Charlotte: 50.36 Meaning Heat have allowed the lowest Shot Quality in the league at 50.7. Defense hasn't been as bad as it looks.
Replying to @CoupNBA @MiamiHEAT
Great write up as always, Coup. It all flows downstream of defense and rebounding. It starts with stops. Do you have any insight on Miamis shot quality vs opponent in any/each of the first 3 games?

The bad news is the result, Miami now 0-3 after their comeback fell short in Charlotte. Good news was the longest stretch of elite defense this team has shown, if not a proof of concept at least evidence that they can be what they need to be. Takeaways: nba.com/heat/news/coups-take…
