The College Football Playoff Rankings are TERRIBLE AND MAKE ZERO SENSE. Here is what the CFP Rankings should have been.

Thank you for reading. For those unfamiliar with the Doctrine and Covenants, it is a book of scripture used in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints containing revelations from the Lord to the Prophet Joseph Smith and to a few other latter-day prophets. One common attack I receive here quite often is this: "There's no archeological evidence for anything in the Book of Mormon." (Put aside the fact that there is, in fact, SOME evidence.) Two points: 1. Up until about 125 years ago, there was NO archeological evidence for many historical assertions in the Bible. In fact, to name one example, there is still NO real evidence that the Exodus took place as described in the Book of Exodus. But I've yet to find a Christian who wants to go on record as saying that the Hebrews didn't escape from Pharoah and spend 40 years in the wilderness of Sinai. 2. Spiritual testimonies don't require scientific proof for their validity. That makes many people uncomfortable, of course, but it is nevertheless, true.

Three hours before kickoff today, the visiting fans set up tents at an elementary school outside Orlando and started unloading thousands of pounds of food. None of it was for them. All of it was for students at the school they came to play. The visitors were BYU. The food goes to the Knights Helping Knights Pantry at UCF, which started in 2009 as a class project and is now run by students for students. Last school year it gave out more than 185,000 pounds of food across nearly 60,000 visits. About 400 UCF students walk through it on an ordinary day. Roughly 35% of UCF students say they deal with some level of food insecurity. BYU fans have been doing this at road games since 2019. They call it Cougs Care, and the local alumni chapter picks the charity in whatever city the team is playing in. Last November in Lubbock they ran a book drive with Texas Tech fans for Literacy Lubbock. It was supposed to be one tailgate. It turned into a week. Here is what the Texas Tech side said about that. "Everyone wanted to help, so we decided to make this a weeklong event." They collected more than 6,000 books. Andy Reid went to Brigham Young University. Patrick Mahomes went to Texas Tech. Both of them pushed it online. In Ames, Iowa they collected coats, shoes and blankets, and they did it in the name of a man from Des Moines named Charles Good, who in 1856 gave new boots to a group of children walking west. They were paying back a stranger 169 years later. At East Carolina they filled the Purple Pantry with more than 5,000 pounds. Tyler Stahle of BYU posted pictures from under the tent in Oviedo this afternoon while the food was still coming in. Last season the whole thing brought in 76,500 pounds, which was 15 times what it collected the year before, and the number of people taking part doubled to 26,500. The last time BYU played in Orlando, two years ago, fans left about 2,000 pounds for this same pantry. The tailgate was open to both sides, and UCF fans came and gave to their own pantry alongside them. Be honest about the size of it. One tailgate does not fix a campus where a third of the students are short on food, and the University of Central Florida is one of the largest schools in the country. The drive is also run by BYU's own alumni association, which means it is good for BYU too. And the pantry is not the only thing on that campus that needs filling. BYU lost today. UCF won 39 to 31 in double overtime. The food was already stacked on the tables by then. The cans were counted, the bags were loaded, and none of those people knew yet whether they had driven across the country to watch their team lose. They handed it over before they knew. When was the last time somebody did something for you with nothing in it for them. Thanks to @tstahle15 for sharing this story!

Jesus said true disciples abide in his word (John 8:31), love one another (John 13:35), deny themselves and take up the cross (Matt 16:24), and do the Father’s will rather than merely claim “Lord, Lord” (Matt 7:21). LDS place Christ at the center and seek to follow those teachings, so they fit a framework based solely on his recorded words. Broader creedal tests that LDS reject lie outside that direct standard.

BYU SHOULDN’T HAVE BEEN LEFT OUT OF THE PLAYOFF LAST YEAR. BYU SHOULDN’T BE LEFT OUT OF THE CHRISTIAN CONVERSATION. BYU SHOULDN’T BE DISRESPECTED FOR THEIR RELIGIOUS BELIEFS. BYU SHOULDN’T BE LOOKED DOWN ON BY ANYONE. BYU SHOULD BE THE #1 TEAM IN THE COUNTRY. GOD’S PLAN!

Resources for the 2027 youth theme of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including the logo and music album, “Rejoice in Christ,” are now available on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.  The 2027 youth theme, “Rejoice in Christ” (see Philippians 4:4), was announced on September 1 and is the same as the Salt Lake Temple Celebration’s theme. Young Women General President Emily Belle Freeman said the shared theme will help connect youth to both the Salt Lake Temple Celebration and the blessings of temple worship worldwide. “‘I just love this thought of the youth all over the world rejoicing in all that we know about the house of the lord and the blessings that come from that knowledge,” President Freeman said. “He Hath Borne Our Griefs”: One of the most evocative and poignant depictions from the Savior’s life is detailed in Carl Bloch’s “The Mocking of Christ.” You can see blood dropping down from the crown of thorns placed upon the Savior’s head. A soldier stands mocking Him in anger. Yet Christ is not fazed. He’s looking past the man and not only looking past those who would mock Him, but He’s looking to us. In this week’s "Come, Follow Me" lesson, we read Isaiah’s beautiful imagery of the sacrifice of our Savior, Jesus Christ: “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:4–5). I hope we can learn from these chapters in Isaiah and see the miracle of the Atonement of Jesus Christ in our lives.

Teach Truth with Love: It takes courage to stand for truth. It takes even more courage to stand for truth with love. When we try to love others by minimizing God’s laws, we separate ourselves from the one person who loves them the very most. The Savior showed love for the woman taken in adultery. But he also charged her to “go, and sin no more” (John 8:11). For disciples of Jesus Christ, truth and love always walk together. I believe teaching truth with love will be the hallmark of Christ’s disciples in the last days. For some this will require greater conviction. For others it will demand greater charity. I know the Lord will help us as we strive to teach truth with love. #GeneralConference Artwork: Jesus and the Adultress © GoodSalt.

In that case, let's make it Standard Time Permanent! Just pick one and stick with it!
🚨Just in: Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton Doubles Down in opposing making Daylight Standard Time Permanent “No one likes changing the clock, me included, but Congress has enacted permanent Daylight Savings Time multiple times before and repealed it each time once Americans experienced absurdly late sunrises in the winter.”
