A Greater Roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus). They're found in southwestern & south-central US (such as Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California) & Mexico, as well as a photo (my reference for this drawing) on a beautiful Thank You card I received for one of my drawings.
The Eurasian Pygmy Owl (Glaucidium passerinum) is the smallest owl in Europe and is found in the boreal forests of Northern and Central Europe to Siberia. This owl is active during the daylight hours near sunrise and sunset. This is for the #BirdWhisperer October prompt.
The Black Woodpecker (Dryocopus martius) lives in mature forests across the northern Palearctic and is the sole representative of its genus in that region. It’s the largest of its species in Europe as well as portions of Asia. For the September #BirdWhisperer prompt.
The African Grey Hornbill (Lophoceros nasutus) is a widespread resident breeder in much of sub-Saharan Africa and the southwest of the Arabian Peninsula. It has escaped or been deliberately released into Florida. Welcome to America. For the August #BirdWhisperer prompt.
Last day of #Inktober2026 is the prompt word "flex". I chose the most flexible mammal I could think of and that would be the weasel. And weasels can be quite terrifying predators despite their small stature. Since it's October 31st, I gave it a Halloween theme. Happy Halloween.
A Cookiecutter Shark (Isistius brasiliensis) or cigar shark. An oceanic shark found worldwide. It feeds by gouging out round plugs as if cut by a cookie cutter from the flesh of other sharks, sea mammals, large fish & rarely a swimmer. Day 30 word prompt "cookie". #inktober2026.
An African Elephant for #Inktober2026 day 29 word prompt "Tusk".
A trophy mule deer would fit the day 28 word prompt of "trophy" for #Inktober2026.
Turkeys have been traditionally thought to be dumb birds. Their reputation for low intelligence is a myth driven by misunderstanding of their behaviors. A Wild turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) for #Inktober2026 day 27 prompt word "dumb".
A Cheetah for The day 26 #Inktober2026 prompt "Zip". Nothing short of the Impala can speedily zip across the African savannah as fast as them, capable of reaching speeds of 70-75 mph.
A Saltwater Crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) drawing for the #Inktober2026 day 25 prompt "Fracture". It holds the record for strongest directly measured bite force of any living animal at 3,700 PSI. That bite would break, tear, destroy, and "fracture" about any part of its prey.
A hippity, hoppity, happy birthday card for our great-nephew, whose birthday is today. Happy Birthday Henry John!
For the #Inktober2026 day 24 word prompt "Bake", I connected the classic Mother Goose nursery rhyme to the Yellow-headed Blackbird:
Sing a song of sixpence,
A pocket full of rye,
Four and twenty blackbirds
Baked in a pie.
A whimsical and dapper hare for #Inktober2026 day 23 prompt of the word "Dapper".
#Inktober2026 day 22 prompt of the word "Beacon". A Bald Eagle. The eagle is often viewed as a spiritual guide and soaring messenger to higher realms, and reminds humans to follow their hearts like a "beacon", with clarity and purpose.
According to Inuit mythology, Tulugaak (Raven) was the creator of light in their world and a hero of their people. For the #Inktober2026 day 21 prompt "Hero".
A Male African Lion for the #Inktober2026 prompt for day 20 "Lounge". From what I've seen and read about male African Lions is that they spend most of their time lounging around.
A Duck-billed Platypus, a semi-aquatic, beaver-tailed, egg-laying, venomous mammal endemic to Eastern Australia. This animal even confused Charles Darwin. I chose this animal to represent the day 19 prompt "Confused" for #Inktober2026.
A Humboldt Penguin for Day 18 prompt of "Flightless" for #Inktober2026. Endemic to the west coast of South America, it's known in Peru as the pajaro-niño, or baby bird, due to their waddling gate & flightless wings held out suggesting the image of an infant toddling on the beach.
