What if your crypto wallet could upgrade its security without waiting for the entire blockchain to change?
That's one of the interesting things about how @Starknet is built.
Think of your wallet as a house. Your signature is the key that proves you're allowed to open the door and make a transaction.
But what happens when the lock becomes outdated? You need a way to change the lock without rebuilding the entire house.
That's where Starknet's programmable accounts come in.
Instead of relying on one fixed signature method, an account can support new signature methods through its own smart contract logic. This means security can adapt at the account level, without requiring a network-wide upgrade.
And there's another important piece: STARK proofs.
STARK proofs allow Starknet to verify computation using cryptographic proofs. Because they are hash-based, they offer a different path to preparing for quantum threats than cryptography that relies on elliptic curves.
Why does this matter?
Quantum computing and AI-assisted mathematical breakthroughs could eventually challenge cryptographic systems we rely on today. We don't know when or how those threats will develop, but waiting until a vulnerability becomes urgent is not a great security strategy.
Starknet is exploring how to make its security more adaptable, including the possibility of operating an independent L1 where it has greater control over its security upgrade timeline.
This matters because Starknet is an Ethereum L2. Its security and migration plans are connected to Ethereum's cryptography and the timeline for Ethereum's own upgrades.
The bigger lesson is that crypto security shouldn't be something we build once and never revisit.
We need systems that can adapt as cryptographic threats evolve.
Starknet is preparing for that future. It is not a claim that Starknet is already fully quantum-safe.
