Woah, this caught my attention today. Apparently $ASTS decided to build their own medium/heavy lift reusable rockets.
Could be a potential competitor to $RKLB Neutron or $SPCX Falcon 9?
"Starting in late 2028, the use of the Blacklift rocket will complete AST SpaceMobile's end-to-end vertical integration"
But it kinda seems extremely difficult, capital intensive, and takes very long to do... But more valuable if they can pull it off

What people don’t realize is that $ASTS is the emerging giant. My slide here massively underestimates the true cargo capacity $ASTS is going to have - there’s a reason they have a 100 satellite MLA (all the launchers want them).
They are going to be sending thousands of satellites when you see what the actual product roadmap is.
They have figured out production and now you are about to see how much demand is unleashed (original comms, J-LEO, SCE, government, on-orbit power, military, compute). Access to priority codes is a major fucking give away.

🚨 BREAKING: $ASTS has officially notified the FCC that it will imminently commence direct-to-cell operations in Brazil with partner TIM 🇧🇷
The filing, submitted under the FCC's authorization for AST SpaceMobile's 248-satellite LEO constellation, confirms:
✅ All necessary national regulatory authorizations have been obtained.
✅ D2C operations will use TIM's licensed cellular spectrum.

➡️AST has secured multi-launch agreements covering over 100 BlueBird satellites expected to be deployed cumulatively in 2027–2028. AST will continue utilizing multiple third-party launch providers to support deployment of its growing commercial and government satellite constellations.
➡️AST is now part of the US Defense Priorities and Allocation System (DPAS) program, enabling qualifying rated US orders and contracts involving BlueBird satellites to the front of the line ahead of other commercial payloads launches.
➡️AST has entered into a $1.3B deal w/ FireFly to develop its own reusable heavy lift vehicle, BlackLift, with initial launches in late 2028 as part of a strategy to vertically integrate capability, derisk deployment and reduce costs. BlackLift will be purpose built to to deliver 5x Block-2 satellites to LEO. With significant global government and MNO demand for multiple constellations, this was the next logical step to 1) reduce the biggest ongoing cost and 2) create another dependable launch option.

And for the “now they just need to launch” guys out there.

Great to hear from @AST_SpaceMobile at B6GS and its commitment to MNOs for D2C satellite connectivity.
I've also learned today that AST's architecture is designed to preserve data sovereignty and is also optimized to utilize low band spectrum to maximize reach with some limited capability for indoor coverage.
One of the early criticisms of the company was the massive size of its satellites relative to others. However, as AI workloads grow, they will require significant uplink improvement. Physics dictate that a satellite's size matters on this point, and the company is well positioned to deliver needed bandwidth well into the future as its constellation grows. 🚀🛰️
