That rubber ball bouncing down the stairs in THE CHANGELING (1980) is one of the simplest, most chilling moments in horror.

#JasonVoorhees is more effective as a force of nature than as a character who needs to be psychologically dissected. The original #Fridaythe13th already established the tragedy surrounding Jason and his mother. That backstory gave the franchise enough foundation to work with.

That doesn't mean #CrystalLake can't be good. There's certainly room for compelling storytelling within that universe. But I question whether Jason's mythology is really deep enough to warrant this level of exploration.

The original movies were never masterpieces. Some had ridiculous plots, questionable decisions, and continuity that barely held together. But that was also part of their charm. You weren't watching Friday the 13th for an intricate mythology or a deep character study.
