Free advice. Don't do organised crime with a governmental Bureaucracy. Civil servants write CYA memos reflexively, & modern back up solutions mean you'll never be able to get rid of ALL the evidence. Courtesy of someone who spends a lot of time extrapolating from incomplete data

🚨 Brexit was sold as a way to restore British sovereignty. Yet we are making our hospitals, defence systems and government infrastructure dependent on proprietary American technology platforms. We left the EU, whose democratic institutions we helped shape, to escape being “rule-takers”. Now critical systems rely on corporations whose leaders we cannot vote out. And @JohnHealey_MP now Chancellor, was Defence Secretary for almost two years as this dependence deepened. Under his watch, the MoD signed a strategic partnership with Palantir and awarded it a £240.6mn contract without competition. Taking back control has too often meant privatising it and handing it overseas. The question is not just where the data is stored. Can Britain operate, scrutinise and replace a critical defence system without the supplier’s permission, expertise or continued support?

Some of the more radical elements of the MAGA cult are discussing "civil war" due to the recent electoral loss; this is likely being pushed be foreign state actors to encourage terrorist acts and disruption events in the following months. Russia is accelerating its operations.

This is what I've been saying since the beginning. They've stolen time from us. They've stolen the opportunity to see things that will never be achieved or accomplished in our lives because They've set everything back so far.theyve stolen so much from us all. Bury them.
The MAGA party took 10 years from you. Now is not the time to meet them halfway.

The Bank of England has raised interest rates to 4%, supposedly to tackle inflation. There is just one problem with this decision. The Bank knows that much of the inflation we are suffering is being driven by rising oil and energy prices, largely resulting from conflict in the Middle East. It also knows that raising interest rates cannot reduce those prices. So why is it doing this? The answer is that the Bank believes it must suppress demand elsewhere in the economy to compensate for rising energy costs. In other words, it is deliberately making mortgages more expensive, increasing business borrowing costs, discouraging investment and reducing household spending power. And all this when people are already struggling with higher energy bills. That is problem number one. There is, however, another problem. Higher interest rates increase costs for businesses, which can then feed through into higher prices. They can, in that case, add to inflation rather than reduce it. The Bank is imposing economic pain to address a problem its chosen policy cannot directly solve. That is not sound economic management. It is the consequence of an economic dogma that refuses to recognise the difference between inflation caused by excessive demand and inflation caused by supply shocks. When will we learn?

In the 80’s there were periodic television writers’ strikes. David Letterman made the decision to go on anyway, without the writers. The comedy suffered, and he would improvise with bits like “Hal Gurnee’s Network Time Killers.” The shows exposed the artifice of television; that what you think you know as a relationship with a host is in fact a shallow parasocial construct driven by dozens of professionals, all dancing for the sponsors. A fugazi. The writers are no longer drafting new material for Trump. He’s a character without a support team because as the lamest of ducks, he’s now a man entirely without stakes. He will drift around in the White House for the next two years, fiddling with his sad Washington DC Construction Playset (The Reflecting Pool! The Golf Course! The Ballroom! Trump-Kennedy Center! The Arch!) while Washington’s careerist mob turns its attention to those who might aid their advancement in the future. The sad old man is not a mastermind or writer. He is a television character, animated by professionals. We may think we know him, and maybe we do, a little. But the architecture of his politics and the sources of our rage are constructed by off-camera craftsmen who are quietly moving on to their next projects. It may seem unintuitive that the writers would leave his character without a grand finale, a final sendoff, or a “who shot JR?” cliffhanger. But he’s perhaps not worth the effort. This ain’t TV… it’s real life. In transactional Washington, his worth was always rooted in what he could deliver. He’s now shown he’s a liability, and the writers have moved on. He may improvise, or try to. But the comedy will suffer, and we will all get a glimpse at the difference between the man himself and the complex Oz-machine we have called Trumpism as it, Terminator-like, oozes and morphs into its next carnation, leaving its old avatar behind.

A word of caution to my fellow Democratic voters: those politicians who resolutely refused to understand the difference between "retribution" or "getting even" and *upholding the rule of law* yesterday will still play that game today and tomorrow, and we may not be able to fix it

It is of course true that Trump's Iran war was a major reason for R losses yesterday. Vance opposed that war and has been aligning with Putin's Carlson/MTG/Massie network for months. He's trying to curry Putin's favor and also capitalize on the "antiwar" sentiment which spans both parties and is strongly supported by his tech libertarian backers like Thiel and Musk. He has the charisma of tepid dishwater and likability just this side of leprosy. Still, this is what he's trying to prepare before Trump goes to the great big orange retirement home in the sky.
One of the things the data analysts on our side obsessed over was "composition"—whether the electorate looked close enough to 2024 for Republicans to win. And despite polls that showed a Democrat blowout, the data kept on telling us the same story: in some states turnout was merely OK, in other states it was downright amazing, and in no state was it catastrophic. There was a genuine sense of optimism on our team: our people were showing up. So, I asked the smartest data guy I know, does that mean we're going to shock the world? "No," he told me. "We might do better than the polls suggest. But the data is telling us that a lot of Trump/Vance 2024 voters are pissed and planning to vote for the other guys. Our voters are turning out, but they may not vote for us." Well, that looks prophetic now. Our voters did show up. In Florida, for example, the electorate was 9 points more Republican than Democrat, just a couple points worse than 2024. Undoubtedly there were places we could have done better on turnout. But the main problem is not turnout. The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026. There will be a lot of infighting and arguing over what happened and why that is. One of the pollsters I really respect told me that our economic messaging wasn’t sharp enough down the stretch. I’m sure that’s true. But the real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone. Another pollster—one of the smartest people I know in politics, told me yesterday we’d lose the generic ballot by 13 points. I felt negative going into Tuesday, but even I was shocked by this. In his polling, he saw that a lot of Trump 2024 voters were angry and planning to vote for Democrats. He asked those voters who had abandoned us what would cause them to come back on our team. The top four answers, accounting for nearly all of the responses were: 1) End the war 2) Focus on cost of living/inflation 3) Put America First 4) Change our relationship to Israel Our voters showed up. And the above four reasons are why many of them voted for Democrats. This is according to a pollster who nailed the results. While many spent Monday attacking Rachel Campos Duffy for calling for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, it turns out her political advice was sound. (She’s also a great person.) In the next few months, there's going to be a lot of gaslighting. Expect to hear any number of establishment politicians say the solution to our woes is amnesty. I'm open to the idea that we should change enforcement—by focusing more on businesses that hire illegal labor, for instance. But anyone pushing amnesty is lying to you. The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night. If you'd like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that's at least honest. But everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there. I remain hopeful about our country. To the people who are pissed off and want to say, “I told you so”: you’re right, you did tell us so. Take that energy into electing Republicans who share your worldview. To the people who are just pissed at the results, you should be. Let’s take that anger and get back to the work of saving our country.

“The reason we lost is the war.” JV and the broligarchs are making a move on Trump. Thiel and Musk want the last two years to extract what they can. This is open mutiny at Trump’s weakest moment. Let the games begin.
