I was glad to join the @aphrc-IDRC breakfast dialogue, where Kenyan and international philanthropic foundations, research and academic institutions came together to ask, what will it take to build a research and development ecosystem that is locally driven, adequately resourced, and responsive to the continent's needs? Thank you to everyone who contributed to a forward-looking conversation. Watch the highlights here: youtu.be/M4UPiscBJAc?si=8f6m… #IamAPHRC #ResearchForDevelopment

This week, the Adolescent Thrive Initiative officially kicked off with a three-day inception and co-creation workshop, bringing together eight research teams from across East, West, and Southern Africa, alongside the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC), the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), and the Global Financing Facility (GFF). Co-funded by IDRC and GFF, this three-year initiative seeks to strengthen locally led, gender-responsive implementation research and policy engagement to improve adolescent sexual and reproductive health across sub-Saharan Africa. The initiative aims to generate actionable evidence, strengthen its uptake in policy and practice, and improve sexual and reproductive health outcomes for adolescents aged 10–19. With @aphrc serving as the Africa Evidence-use Expert Organization, this initiative presents an important opportunity to strengthen research capacity, advance knowledge translation, and ensure that evidence informs policies and practices that r

17 catastrophic global threats will shape the health of the next generation. But they are not inevitable. I was honoured to serve as a Commissioner on the Lancet Commission on 21st Century Global Threats to Health. I worked alongside 34 leaders from health, economics, security, governance and technology. Together we set out a practical agenda for reducing risk and building resilience in an increasingly uncertain world. I'm glad African perspectives and evidence helped shape it, because many of these threats will be felt most sharply on our continent. thelancet.com/commissions-do…

Nine years already 🎉🥳 Nine years ago, I became Executive Director of @aphrc with a full head of dark hair (that’s not my real hair lol). Today I have a few grey hairs and visibly less hair and nine years of memories! I began the journey hesitant, a little anxious, facing the daunting task of keeping a great institution afloat. Nine years on, and a few kilos heavier, the anxiety and trepidation are gone. In their place? The sense that we are unstoppable!.
