Last week, I had the privilege of moderating a session on menstrual health & adolescent girls’ well-being at the just-concluded @GimacNetwork CSO-RECs Meeting in Egypt.
The takeaway? Menstrual health needs financing, accountability, data & above all, girls’ voices.
#ASRH @aphrc
The conversation focused on what life looks like for girls facing barriers like disability, adolescent pregnancy, poverty, and discrimination, & what needs to change so they can stay in school & keep learning.

A question about your health can come at any time.
Maybe you are not sure whether a symptom is normal. Maybe you need information about contraception. Maybe you are looking for help after experiencing violence. Or perhaps you simply do not know where to start.
For many people, the first step is not walking into a health facility. It is finding someone or something they can turn to for reliable information, guidance and a connection to care.
This is where technology can make a difference.
At the Africa HealthTech Summit in Kigali, Rwanda, RHNK spotlighted Nena na Binti, our platform that connects people to SRHR information, counselling, psychosocial support and other services, while linking them to healthcare and support where needed.
The summit, held under the theme “Wellness for All,” created an opportunity to look at @NenaNaBinti not simply as a call centre, but as a health technology innovation built around a very human problem: how do we make reliable SRHR information and support easier to reach?
Through @NenaNaBinti , someone can start a conversation from wherever they are, get information and guidance, and, where necessary, be connected to a healthcare provider or other support within their proximity.
And being part of a health technology space also gave us the opportunity to step back and ask: How can we make this better?
Across the summit, conversations kept coming back to a few important ideas: technology should solve real problems, communities should have a voice in how systems are designed, digital platforms should work alongside existing health systems, and data privacy and sovereignty cannot be an afterthought.
One message particularly resonated: impact is not simply about reach. It is about whether technology actually makes someone’s life easier.
Our visit to HDI’s community-led SOGIE-SC centre and call centre in Kigali reinforced this. We saw how technology and community-based approaches can work together to create safer entry points to information and SRHR services, particularly for people who may face stigma or barriers within conventional systems.
For Nena na Binti, the next chapter is already taking shape.
RHNK is working towards strengthening and complementing the call centre and our digital platforms with a chatbot designed around the real information and support needs of the people who use these services.
The goal is not to replace the human connection that makes Nena na Binti what it is.
It is to create another door.
A door that can help someone find accurate information, understand their options, navigate services and know where to turn while connecting them to human support when they need it.
Because the best health technology is not technology for technology’s sake.
It is technology that meets people where they are, protects their information, responds to their realities and helps them get closer to the care they need.

Uganda has taken an important step. The 2025 Guidelines for Integrating Mental Wellbeing and Psychosocial Support in Educational Institutions give schools a clear foundation for promoting mental health, identifying needs early, supporting and referring learners, and caring for the wellbeing of educators.
Our latest policy brief at @aphrc looks closely at the gap between policy and practice, and what it will take to close it. If you work in education, health, or child protection in Uganda or across the region.
