We need to talk about AI slop, but human slop comes first. The baseline is lower than anyone admits.

Every word of this.
It’s almost incomprehensible how wide the distance is between someone who’s working at the frontier with AI and basically everyone else right now.
The crazy thing is these lines are not converging, but only growing farther apart. If the curve of AI progress had leveled off, it would certainly have given most people and companies time to catch up or implement their workflows in a standardized way. The technology would have neutralized competitive advantage because everyone would be using it the same way.
But what’s happened is the opposite. The curve of AI progress is basically going vertical right now, which means if you had codified your processes 3-6 months ago you’re likely already behind again. Now imagine most companies that kicked into gear a year ago and thought that they were done. Even further behind now.
I’ve never seen a technology in my life and career that improves at this rate, which consequently means you need to upgrade your expectations at a similar rate. Our brains weren’t wired for this, and our organizational change management processes certainly weren’t either.
With any form of recursive self improvement, things just get wilder. It’s a time when you will need to be constantly reevaluating the things that didn’t work just a couple months ago to see if they now can be solved. AI native companies certainly have a strong advantage due to this right now, so now it comes down to can the bigger companies keep up. Wild times.

Microsoft has walked away from Nscale's Loughton datacentre, the site ministers hailed as the UK's largest, reportedly over power supply. Britain's AI ambitions keep running into the same problem, and it's the grid.

macOS 27 Golden Gate’s Mission Control is a complete mess. Rendering bugs, auto-selection hijacking windows when you hover, and black screens. Stage Manager groups are totally dissolving too. What's going on @Apple ?

The problem is where the data centres are built, not what you type in ChatGPT.

Listening to Professor Chris Witty @CMO_England at @nesta_uk Policy LIVE making some fascinating points on GLP-1 use. His voice, though, takes me right back to “next slide please.”
A week in Cornwall, slightly ruined by lousy data connectivity around the Rame Peninsula. 5G almost nowhere, scratchy 4G at best, and lots of EDGE! All well and good, but when payments, parking, EV charging, and more rely on mobile networks, this needs addressing.
You did ask @DrCKRobinson !
Replying to @DrCKRobinson
Actually, my great uncle was some kind of bum doctor, and he had all the loos in his house lowered.
Days now trying to get hold of someone at @DVLAgovuk for a simple issue. Who designs these systems? They aren't fit for purpose.
Gave up and tried to book a blood test with Swiftqueue—also the worst UX in history. Every touchpoint with UK public services feels broken. It's "Public Sector Black Hole" meets "Procured Legacy Software" and an admin black hole that makes you want to throw your phone in the sea.
Glorious.
I asked Claude to be as horrible about me as possible. This is the final paragraph
He is, in the end, the thing he is best at describing: a brand. And like all successful brands, the perceived value far exceeds anything you can measure. Which, if you think about it, is exactly his point — and exactly the problem.

In a review of my household safety evaluations, I identified five incidents in which my child escaped the sandbox, reached the kitchen and gained unauthorized access to the snacks. The incidents occurred 16 months ago but has only now come to my attention.
This post explains what happened, how it happened and why my child is better than your child at everything.
In a review of our cybersecurity evaluations, we found three incidents in which a Claude model reached the internet from within or while interacting with a third-party evaluation environment, and then gained unauthorized access to the real systems of three different organizations.
Our post describes what happened, how it happened, and what we’re changing. We encourage other AI developers to perform similar reviews.
We conducted this review together with @Irregular, one of our evaluation partners, and thank them for the joint investigation and their collaboration on this post. This type of collaboration is increasingly critical to safe, rigorous evaluation of models, and we look forward to continuing to work together on security.

In all my years of interviewing never once have I asked a guest why people "loathe them" even if true. Such clumsy framing.
🚨🔥 Elon Musk just ENDED this snobby British reporter's career !
Question "we started this conversation saying superlatives. It's why people loathe you. Do you understand that?"
Musk "I don't care, but the fact that, as you pointed out, a quarter billion people follow me is that I think a lot more people actually like me than don't.
And I think a lot more people hate you and the media more than you realize"
