Just because a student does not raise their hand, does not mean that they are not thinking deeply about the content. We need to broaden what we mean by engagement in our classrooms/schools. This will invite/value more students in the learning process.
A great turn out for our #shinebright performance with the @QueenElizSchool gr 3/4 choir @ Port Royal Park @newwestschools. TY @lauraranaletter for helping make this possible. Ss decorated ornaments to add to the display.

May #Diwali bring brightness in your lives and happiness, joy and prosperity to you. My grade 3s designed and made beautiful #Rangoli designs today. I also had the pleasure of reading Divali Rose using my #TrinidadandTobago accent.

Reminding us of the importance of listening. Listen without judgement; make space for others. Be curious, avoid making assumptions. Listen for what is not being said. @amtremonti @bcpvpa #CL2021
Love @S_Nouman_Ashraf & Mark Edwards’ reframing of the golden rule- having the curiosity and capacity to understand what others need from us. #equity @bcpvpa #CL2021

Our hearts are with the Afzaal/Salman family and Muslim neighbours in our community and across Canada as we learn more about the hate-motivated attack on this family in London, Ontario. We stand in solidarity against Islamophobia.
A week of learning & rich conversations about the impact of residential schools. It’s #IndigenousHistoryMonth but learning, caring & action must endure. #EveryChildMatters @QueenElizSchool @newwestschools
Impressive problem solving! Would have never thought of creating a whole new shape. TY #studiostonecreative #soapstonecarving @QueenElizSchool
Creating beautiful soapstone carvings and the legs broke off one of my student’s bears. He took a deep breath and told me he wanted to keep carving. Look at what he created! A true #GrowthMindset! #resilience #creativity

107 years ago today, the Komagata Maru carrying 376 Sikh, Hindu, and Muslim Punjabi passengers arrived in Vancouver before it was denied entry into Canada based on racist immigration policies.
Check out this new video by @HistoricaCanada commemorating the event!

I had the pleasure of meeting this kind man and I keep wondering how this could have happened. There’s only one answer.
"I hate to say racial profiling, but I can't help but think if it was an 81-year-old white man, regardless of the description, they wouldn't have put him in handcuffs for 'officer safety,'" Selwyn Romilly said.
