Another interesting tidbit about the Samsung OLED in the Apple MacBook Pro, it represents the first time any company has patterned an OLED at G8.6 using fine metal masks (FMMs). OLED TVs and monitors use an open mask and FMMs have only been made at G6 till now…
The new OLED MacBook Pro’s do not use LTPS or LTPO for the backplane. Instead, they use high mobility oxide. Samsung’s A6 fab is the industry’s first high mobility oxide fab and it is made on a larger substrate than LTPS and LTPO fabs for now.
