Jobs Day: Interesting numbers in the Establishment Survey. You can see a swelling in tech employment in the 70,000 job pickup in Professional and Business services. That's the positive. But the rest of formation was in the low end sectors...

The tech-related jobs (both goods and services) are driving hourly wages higher on average (up 0.37% in October), while hours are flat. Notable upward revisions over past two months aggregating 84,000 jobs leaves us with a bullish print, but concentration concerns.

Preliminary estimates of this election's voter turnout, at 49.42%, is the second-highest midterm turnout in more than a century. Only 2018 was higher. Notably, estimates of Republican votes in House contests total 50 million. That is only about 24% of registered voters in the US!

This data is from Claude estimates, but relies on sources proven accurate in the past. The takeaways are: 1) High turnout did NOT favor Republicans, as they thought it would; and 2) Those 24% of registered voters who supported Republicans in the House are a really small minority.

ONE NATION - INDIVISABLE Ten years of MAGA wrapping itself in our nation's flag came to an end last night. Your deranged megalomaniac has been repudiated and America is again the land of the free and the brave. Pledge allegiance to one nation, indivisible! – at Naples, FL

Battle Hymn of the Republic (2026 Edition) Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord; He was trampling through our hearts and where are inner thoughts are stored: He hath guided us to judgment, with our verdict not ignored; His truth is marching on.

They stormed the halls of our Republic  laying waste to truth and fact. They forged themselves an idol, cult, forgiven any act. But when asked for our submission  "Hell, no" did most react And truth again marched on!

Of course Trump is self-immolating. He has always been too moronic to sense when he is on fire. When I worked with him briefly in 2001, I was stunned by his lack of general knowledge about business, policy, human beings. He is a fool winging everything. nytimes.com/2026/10/17/opini…

A sticking indictment of university business schools and the MBA, by @Chris_Marquis_. The continuing frustration of workers in US, UK and EU economies can be traced to a post-1980s obsession with teaching management as a science. It isn't. #Showmethemoney nytimes.com/2026/10/18/opini…
