Gallows Pole — Led Zeppelin, 1970 (from Led Zeppelin III). It’s their take on an old folk ballad about someone about to be hanged who keeps begging the hangman to wait just a little longer, hoping their family will show up with enough silver or gold to buy them free. The twist in Zeppelin’s version is that the bribes don’t work and the person still ends up swinging. It starts off pretty acoustic and sparse (Page even plays banjo on it), then builds into something heavier and more driving as it goes.🎶🔥🎵
