Iconic hip-hop photos recreated in the exact same locations years later 🤯📸 Steve Birnbaum, the man behind the camera, is a New York–based photographer best known for his project “The Band Was Here,” where he tracks down and revisits old artist photo locations and overlays the original shots in the exact spots they were taken. In a 2024 Muse by Clios interview, he revealed the process behind recreating these images, saying: “I’ll often challenge myself, spending hours, days, months with a picture, trying to find its location. Google Maps has been a blessing, especially when trying to find out what locations looked like years ago. I’ll read interviews with photographers and bands trying to find clues, sift through comments on social media, look at contact sheets if they’re available, investigate tour schedules and histories of the bands.
