Day 28: Practise the Principle of Least Privilege
“Too much access can spoil the recipe for security 👀”
The principle of least privilege means accessing only the data, systems and resources you need to do your job. This helps protect sensitive information, reduce security risks and promote accountability.
Imagine this: A colleague gives you access to an entire project folder when you only need one document. You notice confidential files containing personal or financial information. Instead of opening them out of curiosity, you leave them untouched and report the excessive access so the permissions can be reviewed.
Quick tip: Access only what you need for your task. If you notice you have unnecessary permissions, notify the appropriate colleague or IT team so they can review and correct them.
Why should we only access information we need?
Throughout the month of October, I will be engaging in a 31 days Cybersecurity Diet as part of my contribution to the conversations regarding Cybersecurity Awareness.
Each day, I will post a basic Cybersecurity topic, share few tips and ask a question. I want to encourage everyone doing Cybersecurity to join me by using the Cybersecurity diet to also educate people about basic Cybersecurity awareness. Let’s continue to spread the word and support the ecosystem to reduce Cybersecurity breaches 💪

Day 27: Avoid Unknown Removable Storage Devices
Keep your Cyber diet clean 👀
Not every cybersecurity threat comes through the internet. Some can enter your computer through physical devices, including USB drives, external hard drives, and memory cards. Connecting an untrusted device can expose your system to malware or other security threats.
Imagine a friend gives you a USB drive containing a presentation they need you to review. That innocent device could contain malicious files that put your device and data at risk.
Quick Tip: Only use removable storage devices from trusted sources and scan them with approved security tools where appropriate.
Before connecting a USB drive to your computer, what steps should you take to ensure it is safe to use?

When your confidence is low, borrow strength from preparation. Practise, rehearse, ask questions and improve your craft.

Can I ask a DUMB tech question ?
Why storage always goes like this
8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512GB .
Why not 150GB, 230GB and 300GB ?
Is there a Technical reason OR is it just Marketing ?

You can’t hold every coin. If you miss one you spotted early, don’t procrastinate on the next opportunity trying to chase what’s already gone. There will always be a better opportunity. Don’t FOMO.

Many graduates use "Graduate Trainee Program" and "Entry-Level Job" interchangeably. They are not the same.
A Graduate Trainee Program is designed to help you learn, explore different functions, and build a foundation for your career.
An Entry-Level Job hires you into a specific role from day one. You ar=re expected to learn on the job while contributing to the team.
Think of it this way:
Graduate Trainee Program= Learn first, then specialize.
Entry-Level Job = Specialize while you learn.
Neither is better than the other. They simply serve different purposes.
The mistake is ignoring entry-level opportunities while waiting for a Graduate Trainee Program.
Your career can start with either.
