Halloween full moon at #PoolbegLighthouse
As the night of Samhain began in October 2020, the full moon broke through the clouds above Poolbeg Lighthouse, lighting Halloween night.
The next #Halloween #FullMoon isn't till 2039.

ALT Halloween full moon at Poolbeg Lighthouse. As the night of Samhain began in October 2020, the full moon broke through the clouds above Poolbeg Lighthouse, lighting up Halloween night. There was something rather eerie about that night. Ireland was under the 5km travel restriction, and with few people out and about, Halloween celebrations were very different that year. Samhain is the ancient Celtic festival marking the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter, a time when folklore tells of the boundary between this world and the Otherworld becoming thinner... A full moon on Halloween is a rare occurrence, and there won't be another until 2039.
The first named storm of the season, #StormAusten passes Ireland tonight. A look back at #StormBram, which damaged the Great South Wall at Poolbeg last December, cutting off lighthouse access for months.
Stay safe if you're out tonight!

October is beautiful on Achill Island!
Along the Benmore Cliffs towards Achill Head, the slopes of Croaghaun rise above the remote corrie lakes.
A remarkable landscape of towering mountains & deep Atlantic waters.

The Northern Lights over Dún Laoghaire Pier
Hard to believe it's almost two years since the skies over Ireland lit up like this. Photographed on 10 October 2024, this is a frame I never got around to sharing at the time.

Wednesday’s sunset over Sandymount Strand was stunning.
Rain fell without reaching the ground while the sky glowed in contrasting colours. It had that distinct feeling that something was brewing beyond the horizon... ⚡️
