Does Joel Embiid purposely avoid playing Nikola Jokic in Denver?

We keep hearing that Joel Embiid ducks Nikola Jokic when the teams play in Denver. But is that really the case? Year-by-year history and context.

Makes a difference when at the end of a game the Knicks intentionally foul Maxey and the refs actually call it, rather than letting it go until Divencenzo hits a 3.

Love seeing Embiid think beyond the initial block… tipping it so softly to himself- more Duncan, than say prime Dwight who woulda swatted it out of bounds.

Maxey’s defense… impressive so far.

“Even the person who came up with the theory of the ‘alpha wolf’ has since debunked his own research. In fact, we’ve learned wolf packs are simply regular families, doing whatever is necessary for survival.” Really loved this column from @PaulHudrick: libertyballers.com/76ers-ana…

Tank Chronicles: This is literally the third time LeBron has chosen to go to a team that built much of what it had to entice him by once being the worst team in the league over a 4-5 year span Cleveland - ’11-’14. Philly - ‘14-’17. Lakers - ’14-’18.

Per league sources, Joel Embiid was a heavy figure in LeBron's recruitment, and that recruitment lasted throughout the process

To be very clear, LeBron is part of the return in the PG trade. He doesn't come without it.

Bleacher Report ranked Joel Embiid’s contract as the league’s worst: “Embiid has appeared in 76 of a possible 246 regular-season games over the past three years. You can’t invest more than one-third of the salary cap in someone who’s not even available one-third of the time.” 😬

Sam Presti has been tanking and building and perfecting that team since 2007 (tanking for Westbrook, Ibaka, trading em for CP3 + 2 picks, Oladipo, Sabonis, >PG>SGA+ J, Williams, tanking again 15 years later for Chet… a near 20 year dynasty building project all to run into a Spurs team compiled of top 3 picks… just like Presti’s original KD, Russ, Harden core.

Watching this exceptional game, capping off an incredible series, with teams built around tanking (Thunder) and multiple top-3 picks in a row (Spurs), thinking about how none of this would happen under the new anti-tanking rules but at least Utah will play Lauri down the stretch

It looks like the list has been trimmed from four candidates down to two (maybe one?) to lead the Sixers’ front office.

Tony Brothers staff: makes the wrong call. Huddles with fellow refs to discuss it. Decides to leave the wrong call. Sees Spurs coach challenge and ignores it. Calls foul against spurs on other end. Then hit spurs with tech. Masterful villainy
