Part of that is probably just normal regression from last season's unsustainably high on-ice shooting percentage, from very lucky to unlucky.
Macklin Celebrini is currently the fastest faller in Net Rating. He has just 4 points at 5v5 on the season and the Sharks are now below a 20% chance of reaching the postseason.

What I've noticed about pretty much every James Hagens goal this year: He's so smart at getting to the net. Doesn't go there and stay there, he cycles, finds pockets of space, and attacks. Time is limited in the NHL. He's been picking his spots so well this year.
BOSTON IS ON THE BOARD! 🐻 James Hagens nets his sixth goal of the season!

Viggo Björck's mental maturity is actually holding him back. Risk averse, he wants to fit in a system more than push offensive advantages. Same as last season in the SHL. He needs freedom to experiment, fail, and push his limits.
NHL next season was a likely scenario for Björck. Ready like Ben Kindel was: mature game, enough tools at 18, and Björck has top pro experience. Just like Kindel, a fast transition won't help skill development. He will get a lot of D+1 hype, but we'll see the long-term effect.

Good trade mostly for NSH. Wright already has an NHL foundation plus upside (skills in all areas plus a checking game). Wood has more to develop (skating/pace of decisions and defence), but more goal-scoring upside. In the right situation, they could both break out.
Seattle trades Shayne Wright to Nashville for Matthew Wood.

Bosse Meijer (2027) continues to quietly succeed at the SHL level. His near-half-point-per-game output so far places him among some nice historical company. Sneaky guy for this class. eliteprospects.com/league/sh…

Lindstrom is playing a supportive role right now, not a lot of minutes. That's why he's not scoring. He still looked like a top prospect in a few games last season. He won't reach his DY projection, but he's still a valuable prospect. Give it some time.
Don't know if this is just a weird my-feed thing, but I gotta be honest, don't really love the way people are talking about Cayden Lindstrom Phenomenally talented player in his draft year, and by all accounts, an even better person. Just no accounting for injuries sometimes

Rutger McGroarty with an insightful take on the “get to the net” cliché and why timing matters more than simply going to the net: “I think overall, a lot of people just say, like, ‘Get to the net, get to the net, get to the net.’ But just going to the net, a lot of the time, is just kind of a dumb play, and that's what a lot of people don't realize. If you just go there and get tied up, I think arriving on time is a huge thing. I think that not being at the net front in a battle when the puck's behind the net, because that's worthless. I think that just arriving on time is a huge thing, and that's something that I've tried to work on a lot.” #LetsGoPens

Anton Frondell and Frank Nazar could work very well together. Nazar brings the transition game and the playmaking; Frondell has the rest.
Anton Frondell is 2-for-23 on faceoffs over his last five periods. He said a couple weeks ago that faceoffs have been one of the most surprising things about the NHL: "Shit, this is something people are really good at."

Command was not an NHLe favourite this year. EP had him at 19, projecting him as a likely 3C thanks to his competitiveness, brain, and balanced skillset. Some prognosticators saw a higher upside for him.

Every player can pick up speed on a runway at the NHL level. They're elite athletes constantly training. Grading skating is more about agility, posture, ways they use their skating...The acceleration data is also the most interesting to me.
thoughts 1. yes, NHL edge data is not going to grade the "best skaters" in terms of skill. i would hope that that's obvious. 2. 20+ mph bursts /60 is EXTREMELY repeatable YoY. it tells you a lot about the speed a player plays at - like it or not, there's a big signal there.

The Motor on Victor Eklund is absolutely ridiculous, this kid never fails to put maximum effort into every shift. Eklund isn't the biggest player but he's got HEART, #Isles lead 2-0.

Last season, we introduced our latest major European project: the ranking of the top 100 prospects from the 2010-born class. This year, we’re turning our attention to the 2011-born class. Here’s one must-know prospect from each region. 👀 @eliteprospects eliteprospects.com/news/yout…

This pass by Liam Öhgren is absolutely disgusting. Catches Rossi streaking out of the corner of his eye and just telegraphs this thing from a spin maneuver. Totally blind, tape to tape. Easily my favorite moment of night one.
