back in 2003, the first two episodes of Evangelion were broadcast on Cartoon Network in the middle of the day, and the second episode was so heavily censored that they ended up removing the appearance of PenPen, and they put Misato Katsuragi in a swimsuit in the bath.
the worst part about the censorship is that they cut up the scene in Misato's apartment so much that they completely messed up the background music and you can hear it cut all over the place. they also removed most (not all) beer cans, and painted the remaining ones blue.
The silver lining to this is that 2 years later, Cartoon Network's nighttime teenager programming block [adult swim] aired the entire show mostly uncensored

Cartoon Network digitally removed the arrow pointing at Misato's cleavage in the Photograph she sent to Shinji, I am also posting a Translated version for comparison.
This entire episode was probably one of the most fucked up things I had ever seen on television when I was a kid, up until the Hunting Trip episode.
The Hunting Trip fucked up my mental for a number of years.
I highly recommend Moral Orel.

For the few Evangelion fans that follow me. Here's a very.... Interesting... cut of the scene where Shinji is invited into Misato's place.. It was really cut down for the Cartoon Network broadcast in 2003 and feels rather strange to watch, because a LOT of the scene is missing.
