Huey Newton, Co-founder of the Black Panther Party, Seated In A Wicker Peacock Chair, 1966.
Newton had co-founded the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense in Oakland, California, with Bobby Seale earlier that year. The organization emerged during a period of intense racial inequality, police violence and growing frustration with the limited progress of the civil rights movement. The Panthers believed Black communities had the right to defend themselves and to organize around their own political and economic needs.
The rifle in photographs like this one was connected to the Panthers' practice of legally observing police activity while carrying firearms. California law at the time allowed people to openly carry loaded weapons in public under certain circumstances. Newton and other Panthers used this approach to monitor police officers and educate residents about their legal rights during encounters with law enforcement.
But the Black Panther Party was about far more than guns. As the organization grew, it developed community programs including free breakfast programs for children, health clinics, food distribution and political education. These programs helped the Panthers build support in Black communities across the United States while challenging the conditions they believed were created by racism and economic inequality.
The peacock chair itself became part of the photograph's symbolism. Newton appears both powerful and deliberately composed, surrounded by objects that represented resistance, self-defense and African identity. The photograph helped create an enduring visual image of the Panthers at a moment when the movement was beginning to attract national attention.

Pam Grier, Bernadette Stanis And Freda Payne.
Pam Grier became one of the defining stars of 1970s Black cinema, rising to fame through films such as Coffy and Foxy Brown. Her roles helped establish a new kind of leading woman on screen, one who was confident, physically capable and unapologetically in control of her own story.
BernNadette Stanis became a household name as Thelma Evans on Good Times, one of the most influential Black television sitcoms of the 1970s. As Thelma, she brought intelligence, ambition and style to a character who was more than simply a daughter or sister. She became one of the show's most recognizable figures and a major television icon of the era.
Freda Payne had already established herself as a powerful singer before becoming internationally known for her 1970 hit “Band of Gold.” The song became a major success and remains one of the defining recordings of the era. Payne's career also extended into acting and television, giving her a lasting presence across several areas of entertainment.
Together, these women represent different sides of Black cultural history in the 1960s and 1970s, from groundbreaking cinema and television to soul and popular music. Each built a career that helped expand the visibility and possibilities for Black women in American entertainment.

Another YouGov ‘Emotional Support Poll’ Says William Is Britain’s Favourite Royal. Who Knew Evicting Longtime Tenants Was So Popular?
feminegra.com/another-yougov…
🚨LONG READ🚨
Some people seem confused on how the casinos & Betting companies are using Harry & Meghan, let me break it down ;
Some “royal experts” are recruited to work with casinos and betting companies, to give comments about Harry & Meghan on behalf of those casino / betting brands.
Those comments are then sent to newspapers and websites, which turn them into articles and name & sometimes link to the gambling company.
The outlet gets a headline. The casino gets publicity, potential customers and links that can help its website appear in search results.
So when those comments attack Harry & Meghan, hostility towards them becomes a marketing opportunity for gambling businesses.
Next time you read a hit piece quoting a “royal expert”, read the small print. Look for “speaking on behalf of”……. you may find they are speaking on behalf of a gambling company & it’s who’s behind the commentary.
What a broken world, continuing to vilify dehumanise, smear & bully a couple that’s just trying to live their life now has become a business tool!
