Configuration is approaching infinity. Clearly it's time to focus on conventions again.

Hey #RailsWorld attendees… if your team has an interesting story about how @rails is part of your secret sauce, especially some technical decisions or internals we could dig into on a future episode of On Rails, come introduce yourself this week. Always looking for stories hiding inside real Rails apps.

"We won, what now?" was an excellent keynote from Will Wilson at BugBash on how communities should deal with change. When I first watched it, I thought that more fuzzing/property-based testing were too low of a baseline. But, after digesting it, I have to agree they are good starting points. Especially for higher level tools such as the Bombadil project they announced during the event. After all, we can't formally verify all software and therefore we have to combine empirical validation, static properties, and runtime enforcement. Video: antithesis.com/bugbash/talks…

The keynotes at @ElixirConf showed the Elixir community matured a lot when it comes to AI practices within the last year: * Quinn Wilton discussed the importance and accessibility of applying formal methods and static analysis in the age of AI * Chris McCord highlighted that last year coding agents could barely run for 20 minutes and today it can run for 20 hours non-stop. You should be stress testing, optimizing, running verifications way more frequently than before. Furthermore, as coding agents own more of the software development cycle, runtime observability becomes part of the loop (something Erlang/Elixir excels at) and will be super valuable (see screenshots) * Zach Daniel closed with hands on steps to adopt agents throughout and around your software development lifecycle The keynotes are all on YouTube: youtube.com/@codesync?si=5fw… enjoy!

Full credit to @harrybrundage for coining the term Slop Grenade. Let’s make it a thing.
Lazy work used to mean too little output. Now, with AI, it often means too much and more work for everyone else. @tobi call it "slop grenades." A "Slop Grenade" is when you let AI produce the work and pass it on without adding any value (including checking it). Someone else has to wade through it, catch the mistakes, and clean up the mess. You save time and look productive but someone else pays for it.

Today I wrote my first sample native mobile app in pure Elixir with mobframework.com/#install. I’m amazed how easy it is to build a mobile app without leaving the BEAM. Soon I’ll start a series called “Mobile Development for Elixir Developers.” Watch this space.

Really nice walk-through of Omarchy by Microsoft's Dan Wahlin. Super cool to see him use Copilot for all his agentic alterations! Omarchy supports every major harness right out of the box. (Now can we talk bringing Office to Omarchy, @satyanadella 😄?)
Omarchy in 30-ish Minutes! Themes, workspaces, keyboard-first Linux, and agents that eat crash logs. Copilot CLI even tracked down a GPU fix and a touchpad setting I didn’t know existed. Is the MacBook touchpad a thing again? If you’ve been curious but haven’t installed it yet, here’s how I got started.
