#OnThisDay 1st October 1784 The Wash Act comes into effect. Instead of taxing low wines & spirits separately, fermented wash is taxed at 5d per gallon. Ferintosh also loses a privilege since 1689 of making tax free whisky from its own barley & subsequently closes. #WhiskyHistory
