The more I work as a knowledge management consultant → the more I realize the genius of Max Boisot’s I-Space framework I use it as a tool to analyze knowledge systems in business. It has 3 key dimensions: → Codification: how structured & formalized is the knowledge → Abstraction: how generalized is the knowledge → Diffusion: how widely is the knowledge shared Examples: • Public knowledge (say textbooks) → Highly codified & widely diffused • Personal experiences → Poorly codified, specific & not diffused • Scientific theory → Abstract, codified & diffused among experts Applying i-Space to businesses reveals common knowledge management problems: Codification Too little: • Poorly documented projects and methods • Tacit knowledge drain • Hard to reuse knowledge across projects Too much: • Overly complex instructions that are hard to support • And they’re getting outdated too quickly Abstraction Too little: • Project learnings are too specific • Limited reuse Too much: • Frameworks/methods are too abstract to be practically useful in different contexts. Diffusion Too little: • Knowledge silos • Knowledge remains trapped within specific groups Too much: • No curation protocols. People share everything • Information overload • Hard to retrieve relevant things The I-Space allows you to meaningfully balance all 3 dimensions to make knowledge accessible, reusable & practical.

Today I'm launching my new Tana Coaching program🚀 For more than a year I've worked as a Tana consultant & coach. I've discovered that I truly enjoy this work: Helping people build the perfect digital twin PKM system in Tana. I've polished my approach → now I'm ready to scale it. The program is HYPER-personalized. And it goes beyond Tana. My goal is to help you: • Better understand your PKM style [with BIG-5 & Clifton Strengths assessments] • Gain more clarity on your domain [by working on your personal ontology] • Enhance the quality of your sensemaking & synthesis • Integrate your whole digital ecosystem around Tana 5 hours → 5 sessions → 1 digital twin system for you. Let's build something great together🛰️ Link↓

A confession to make✨ I love writing in Tana in the style of Wittgenstein's Tractatus. → It gives a neat rhythm to the lines → It highlights the base ontology → It allows you to look at the entire text through a single concept [using references]

Seeing Reality Clearly That's the biggest challenge when you're planning the next year. It's too easy to write down a wish list of things to accomplish next year and call that a "plan". It's not a plan though. To make an good plan, you need to see what's ACTUALLY going on.

As 2023 draws swiftly to a close, I’ve been reviewing all that I wanted to achieve this year vs. what I actually managed to achieve. Part of this reflection (though it was a niggling feeling before this) is that though I know what direction I want to go in (and sometimes go towards the right ones), my main struggle is pacing. Wanting to do all the things at once. Whether because I’m being a bit delusional re: capacity, or feeling FOMO, or whatever - I often have multiple things going at once, or forget to start things that I wanted to do. Going into 2024, I want to change this. I’m planning to combine my PPV setup with the 12 Week Year approach. My goal is to bring more of the “when” into the “why” and “what” and “how”. Basically, I need a simple structure around medium term planning, and this one resonates. Here’s my @tana_inc super tag so far for the 12 week year. Very much WIP but I’m liking the direction. Once I have a bit more certainty, I’ll definitely share more.

📜 Headings (and better long-form content in general) has been much-requested, and we're thrilled to be taking the first steps on delivering this the Tana way. 🙇 You can now easily section your content in Tana, and have more control over how the content is presented.

Small but powerful tip for @tana_inc users. Want to have a search (or any node) automatically open when you arrive? Convert it into a heading!

This Tana Deconstructed edition is amazing! I would definitely recommend it to better understand what's possible with Tana Queries. Congratulations, @DeniseHTodd! Awesome work 👌🏼
Confused about using PARENT and GRANDPARENT in Tana's Query Builder? Check out the next TANA DECONSTRUCTED Deconstructing Tana Node by Node for Beginners. Including the use of the new DOT NOTATION while using PARENT.field and with DATES. bit.ly/3QGS9GP @tana_inc

What are you up to? Oh, just teaching GPT to take my spaced repetition list of words from Tana, and write a dialogue where all the words I'm learning become inline references, which I can expand in place to see definitions etc...

More Tana Publish loveliness, this time saving me $5/mo by replacing my Linktree I'll eventually add some images to these links, too, but I'm already super pleased with how @tana_inc allows me to lay it all out! If you want to see the page live, it's the link in my profile
