I don't think that CBC story establishes that Iran is "likely" behind the attacks on GTA synagogues and the U.S. consulate. The word "likely" in the headline is premature and is doing way too much work.
But I read the indictment of Mohammad Baqer al-Saadi, the man arrested in the U.S. and accused of helping to organize attacks. His connections to Iran's revolutionary guard seem pretty clear. He repeatedly tweeted encouragement of attacks in Europe, attacks that played out similarly to those here.
Most importantly, al-Saadi was wiretapped while allegedly claiming responsibility for several attacks, including two in Canada. Given his apparent connections and his online activity, his alleged claim is a serious one. Somehow, CBC's written story does not spell out that al-Saadi was audio recorded while allegedly taking responsibility for attacks in Canada (the accompanying video piece is more explicit), and CBC deserves criticism for failing to make this essential point crystal clear to readers.
I imagine there will be more evidence coming. But from the reactions I'm seeing on here, many people are primed to either ignore any new evidence, or to simply dig in their heels and discredit the sources of that evidence.
As for a possible motive, I have no more info than anyone else. But it's interesting that people can so consistently name Canada's complicity in the attacks on Iran, and then wonder why Iran would enact some payback here, as it seems to have done in several other countries.
Here's the indictment for anyone interested in reading more: justice.gov/usao-sdny/media/…

“But last point and then I'll hand to the national chief how it could happen, how it could be abolished. And to be clear, I'm very open to that,” is what Carney told us before I asked this question.

Turnout in Toronto's election was about 46%. For those of us who obsess over politics, it's sobering that more than half of eligible voters just couldn't be bothered.
And 46% is higher than it's been in the last few contests

this is why our coverage of Bradford's Islamophobic endorsers matters. he showcases support from prominent Muslims, but also from prominent folks who direct hate at Muslims
btw peep the comments to see how some of his online supporters feel about Muslim endorsers
I'm grateful to Imam Ismail Ulghar for calling from his Umrah pilgrimage to offer his blessings and making dua.
Imam Ismail is a well-known Islamic scholar in Ontario and across Canada, and his kind words about our campaign and our shared commitment to building a better Toronto for everyone are deeply appreciated.

check out the framing of this @CP24 debate question:
-thousands are using Toronto shelters
-we didn't talk to them
-instead we talked to other residents worried about shelter users "in their neighbourhoods affecting their quality of life"
-candidates, what will you do?
