Every year millions of Americans wake up on Thanksgiving in the race car bed of someone they haven’t seen since Big D’s graduation party, countless others don’t get invited on a walk with their cousins, while some Uncs don’t even get to explain who was really responsible for 9/11
Collins: Do you still believe that Thanksgiving should be canceled?
Hong: I'm a chef, and one of the first meals that I made was for the community when I was 16 was a Thanksgiving meal. But Thanksgiving is also a time that's incredibly painful for many people in our communities. And so I think there, I wanted to make sure that people understood that there are multiple views, but views can evolve. And the position that I'm running for right now, and I think my background as a chef will actually help me become a better governor that's able to bring more people to the table.

here is Mamdani's entire speech at the Knicks parade, which is easily the best speech I've ever heard at an event of this sort

The advance of capitalism was paradoxically driven by bourgeois & socialist revolution mostly opposed by capitalists that destroyed ancien regimes that provided obstacles to the growth of republicanism & competitive accumulation. A revolution based on free labor was the exception
Dylan Riley on understanding capitalism (@DylanRiley6216):
‘Both tendencies, the anti-comparative one and the recasting of capitalism as any economic system organized around profitability, derive from a position of political weakness.’

While I’d love to have a serious discussion about why the relationship between capitalism development and ideology posed by proponents of a racial capitalist worldview is wrong, the notion that it’s responsible for anything politically significant is ridiculous
Millions of well read, civically engaged people of that era participated in mass movements and reformist politics that ushered in social transformations that built a newly hegemonic common sense to which our accomplishments pale in comparison. You stand on the shoulders of giants
